I have a 96 2wd tacoma and purchased Dorman leaf springs for a 4wd. Is the shackle different or the bushings in the rear of the leaf. Do I need to have the 4wd bushings pressed out and install the 2 separate bushings like the original leaf or can I buy a different shackle. Any help is appriciated.

There there ben. It's ok. Normally you are the quickest on the draw.

It is 5 lug. The springs side by side seem to be the same but the rear bushing is the same as the front on the new Dorman spring and the shackle will not fir through the steel insert where as the original spring had 2 all rubber bushing that fit fine.

I also have a 96 tacoma 4wd but cant tell if the shackles are the same or different. They seem the same but the inside diameter may be different. I would rather just purchase the correct shackles if you guys think that would solve my problem or do the Dorman springs just suck.

Are you trying to lift it? Lower it? Just replace old springs?

5 lugs are sprung-under, which means the leaves are attached at the bottom of the axle. 4x4s are sprung-over, which means the leaves are attached at the top of the axle. 4x4 leaves actually have less arch, so installing them on a 5 lug will drop it, which may be exactly what you are trying to do. As for the shackles, I have no idea. I'm assuming they're probably different.

Just trying to replace springs. I can get the 4wd ones under the axle fine but the shackle will not fit the spring. Need to know if I need a different shackle or replace the rear spring bushing to the 2 separate rubber ones like the 2wd originals springs were.

    What was the result????
I am in the exact same boat right now. I have 4wd shackles and the Dorman springs on the way.
Was the truck about the same with the 4wd leaves??
Really wondering how it will turn out.
