Just curious... are you guys who do meth injection still on 87?

 

No, you still need 91-92 octane unless you start spraying right away

No, with a smaller pulley it needs higher octane with the higher boost.

If you run 87 octane it will ping sooner,
With 91-92 octane less chance of ping depending on your boost

 

I meant the meth. I ran 91 after randomly experiencing timing retard at about 5psi on 87, then it was fine up to the set 8psi. Most vehicles turboed from the factory maintain stoich until after 12-15psi on 91, so I just find it odd that you need 91+meth, on a truck that WOTs at 12-11.5AFR.

Not having an intercooler might help explain it since your charge temps could be way higher than ambient.

 

Boost increases compression ratio.

It’s because the 5vz is high compression to begin with. Those vehicles that come turbo equipped are running lower static compression to compensate for the forced induction.

 

I considered this; it's not true.
5VZ is 9.6:1, my Golf R (EA888) is 9.6:1 (26 psi), my Saab (LSJ) is 9.5:1 (now 10:1) (9psi). The Saab ran on 87.

This is actually partially why I consider the 5VZ so apt for boost; if anything, the factory CR is too low for NA.

 

Interesting. I don’t think it’s necessary just heat though. These trucks ping most in the high gear low rpm area when you’re just rolling into boost. If anything it’s probably a tune issue.

I’m considering getting rid of everything because the tunes are shit. Especially on these ECTS-I trucks. The ECU gear changing and throttle control is awful. There’s really just no support.

 

Has anyone received their supercharger back, or had any positive interaction with High Speed Lab supercharger shop lately? All I get from them are promises that my supercharger is in their system
And scheduled to ship on this date or that date that never happens. They’ve had my supercharger since March 7 for routine rebuild. Paid for in full including return shipping the end of April. Last ship date quoted was Oct 27- Nov 2. Still no supercharger.

Man that royally sucks. I don't have any experience with them but that is 100% piss poor business on their end. Hope you get it back soon

 

Can't comment on their supercharger rebuilds, but I got a rebuilt rotor pack from them and it wasn't properly aligned from the get go. I tried to use my warranty and they never would get back to me. I think I called them every day for 2 weeks and never got through, in addition to the multiple emails I wrote them.

I'll never use them for anything again, and I'd recommend that nobody else does either. Basically screwed me out of a thousand dollars.

Eventually I gave up and went through Superchargers Online who were awesome to work with.

I really hope you're able to get your supercharger back.

Ya glad I got the drive by cable year. I hate drive by wire.

Side note: A while ago I started an arduino controller to interface directly with the transmission. If I were to finish it, it would let anyone override shift points by connecting directly to the solenoids, TPS, tachometer, and speedometer. I wanted to do it because I hate not having a "manual" option on my automatic like every other car.

Thats cool! I had something a little more electronic and a little less manual in mind though. Think paddle shifters and tunable shift points, and just a switch to set it all back to stock.

 

Reach out to them, they have(had) a game console like electric shifter that could easily be flappy paddle shifters.

 

Am I the only one with accelerator issues on these electronic throttle bodies? While driving it randomly de throttles and I have to give it more pedal to get back to speed. It comes back to normal after 20-30 seconds or so. I bought a new throttle body and in less than a year I’m getting the same symptoms.

 

I’ve been chasing this vacuum leak for a long time.
I bought a smoke machine and hooked it up through the brake booster vacuum line in the SC.
I found this tiny hole with smoke coming out of the back of the supercharger beneath the bypass valve and above the vacuum hose connection.

Is this hole supposed to be there? Edit: looks a like a repair weld or something was done in this spot. I slapped some gorilla tape over it for now.

When you plugged it with the tape did it improve the issues from the vac leak?
