This alone was enough to keep me from ever considering using a supercharger. The Haltech is the game changer.

The only saving grace is that the 5VZ is a stout MF'er of an engine and is likely the reason there aren't many document 5VZ failures attributed to the supercharger in stock form.

Absolutely. The best mod I have done to my truck. My truck has never ran better, I'm getting better gas mileage than I did with the URD 7th injector kit, and I know the AFRs are where they should be.:bananadance:

Could use an FMU. seems a lot of people have good success with those with stock injectors. not sure if with OEM ecu or HT though

x2. I'm convinced an SC setup like this on many other platforms would have resulted in a lot of wrecked motors, but the 5vz gets ping and just shrugs it off.

x3 It's would be hard to sell a forced induction system this poorly thought out for any other platform... even Nissan with the same tiny MP62 required a tune be loaded to run the thing and that VG engine is also a really stout MFer

    Hello all

I recently bought a used black trd s/c and replaced the rear needle bearings, nose cones bearing, coupler and seal. I didn’t hear it running before I bought it and upon start up she rattles pretty bad. Wondering if this is a rotor plate issue or something else. Full disclosure when pressing the nose cone back together I forgot the spring so I pressed it back out. Im not 100% but the pulley does look like the bottom is sitting closer to the snout than the top. I’m wondering a few things

    1. did I screw the bearings and need a redo. The nose spins smooth

    2. The pulley shoulders on to the shaft but looks like I need a spacer or something as seen in photo. I temporarily used washers.

    3. how do you check the rotor plate.

sorry for the long message but this has been causing me severe agony lol. Should I just buy a new snout? Send to Jon bond for rebuild? Rebuild snout?

Hahah I was wondering about that. Is there a spacer or anything that is needed cause all the videos I’ve seen there is none

No spacer. The pulley is keyed, but is also tapered so the pulley should line up with the other pulleys better once it is corrected.

Install the pulley correctly and take a pic. There should be 1-2 threads on the shaft visible after the pulley nut is tightened.

Ok here is the photo of the pulley on the right way. There is still a gap that the bolt won’t fit over without a spacer of some sort. Also is the woodruff key supposed to fit this loose?

The key should be the near exact size of the cutout on the shaft.

You sure your shaft is plumbed all the way in after the rebuilt?

I mean the pulley doesn’t contact the housing. The pulley makes full contact with the shoulder. Like the pulley thickness looks not right compared to other pics I’ve seen. I’m gonna start with the woodruff first and use a washer to space the shaft nut and see where it goes. The pulley itself is in pretty rough shape so I’ll probably just get a new one. URD is the only one I see selling the stock 2.37. Unless someone here has a decent one to sell.

Either the pulley is shot, or the shaft isn’t fully pressed in. The shoulder of the shaft should not be visible when the pulley is seated/installed.

Well got the new pulley on and still making noise. Pulled the charger and there’s clean oil all inside the charger. Guess I need to do the rotor pack. That’s my luck to get a bad S/C. The pulley that came with it must have been wrong and there was a spacer hence the cut woodruff key and a wear line at where the key is. I’m slowly getting there lol.

I don’t know of any speed shops around here. Try asking on the NorCal forum.

Most speed shops are oriented to pre-1975 cars here because of smog stuff.

Call Yodaman in Santa Rosa to see if they have some time. I had my 5VZ rebuilt there and they did things right.
They also had a lot of experience with supercharging and other performance work. I talked to them for a while in my planning stages of supercharging, but ended up moving up to a 2015 supercharged Tacoma rather than dumping all the planned money into my 2003.
