And watch your closed loop and open loop transition as there should be a switch increase in the AFR getting richer which is a smaller number than 14 going to 11 or 12

If you don’t have your AFR in check nothing else will be in check and running at 14 in boost you are giving up a lot of power.

Don’t get stuck on the amount of boost you can make. More is absolutely not better, especially with a roots based supercharger.

If you want to make more power with the TRD S/C make sure you’re properly fueled and your exhaust is free flowing. Headers and a straight through muffler will DROP boost psi. That’s a good thing. You’re not losing power, you’re still getting the same amount or more air in than before. Then think about going smaller on the pulley.

really the advantage to a smaller pulley is forcing boost to come on sooner.

I don’t think the water/meth kit mitigates the 7th depending on how you set it up. I like the way I have mine set up because I don’t have to rely on the water/meth kit to be able to boost and drive. I only really use it because it’s the only way to cool the charge. If it breaks I still have no problem driving in boost, I just might have slightly reduced power.

You might have a problem bud. The truck without the S/C is tuned to drop the AFR to 11.5 or so to cool the cats and EGTs. If you’re not seeing the drop in AFR something’s up

How are you viewing this? If it’s through a OBD2 device they are slow to update and maybe you’re not seeing it because it’s delayed.

on that note I still get “1 ping”(like I get a single knock) when I punch it up to 4000rpm. It’s weird, I’ve already added more timing retard in that area and I still get it sometimes. I need to add more to stay safe. I don’t know why the knock sensors aren’t picking that up.

you’re in boost with much less load because of the 2” pulley. That’s normal.

The pinging on these tricks is because the timing map sucks for the supercharger. You cannot get around that unless you get a device to retard timing in that RPM/Boost range or add enough methanol to boost octane enough to avoid it.

So the difference is odd because Ryan drives his truck with me on the loop today from flat up a long small hill, he’s running the 2” pulley and in overdrive a t 75 mph and the truck wants to be in boost with 3-4 pounds while cruising, not WOT. He has the automatic.

We do the same drive in my truck 2” pulley and on the hill area at 75mph in 5th my Boost is barely even
coming on. An occasional spike at 1 or 2 pounds and goes back to zero.

Why the big difference between the automatic and 5 speed?
    Is this normal?
Two completely different results from the same motor, same pulley,
    But different transmissions.

I work at a machine shop that specializes in gears and pulleys, I wonder if I can convince the guys to do a small run of SC pulleys. It'd be easier if I had a CAD drawing thoug otherwise I'd have to find someone to measure and draw it.

You have an FMU, I think that helps a lot because as your boost rises you're fuel pressure does 1:8 or 1:10 (not sure which)

Let me know when you get it and I’ll shoot you a timing map that comes standard from SplitSec as a base tune. You can run that and see how it works.

the FIC is only $450 or so if you don’t mind the stressful wiring process. Read that guide as many times as you need to until you don’t need to ask questions. Make sure you add the resistors so it will work correctly.

look up Speedy 4Runner on google. His write up on wiring is helpful and informative. I didn’t follow it but I wish I did to make it easier. Get high quality wiring tools. Do NOT use cheap strippers.

Consider the 7th injector if you don’t mind losing some features. The FIC + injectors + wiring harnesses from Boomslang will put your in the same ballpark. The 7th injector is fairly simple to install yourself with less wiring. The FIC requires cutting in to every ECU injector wire to use bigger injectors.

You don’t really need the injectors right away. If you have methanol you can run 50/50 and add enough to get you to 11.5 or so.

It’s very possible you’re leaning out. Fuel pump may not be able to keep up which is why the 7th comes with an injector and pump. Some trucks seem to struggle with this more than others. Some people can run the stock pump with the 7th just fine others can’t.

It's ghetto tuning just like Methanol (not counting meth that's accounted for in a real standalone tune), can't mess with the ECU so you mess with something that's typically static ya know.

But just because the TRD FMU was discontinued doesn't mean you cant get a good one. Vortech makes a popular option and there are plenty of adjustable rate ones.
