You may need one. Some people do while others seem to get by without. I’d bet that most just swapped it out.

DO NOT get a Walbro. They’re garbage and make a shiton on noise. Super loud screaching noise that I spent an extra $100 and going through the PITA process of changing the pump again for.

Should work fine. I got a Deatchwerks. I may have spelled that wrong but it’s a strange spelling to begin with. So I just go with that.

Going to start by putting my stock pulley back on

Cleaning up my air sensor on my intake ...... John discovered that it was very dirty

And adding a new fuel pump

I’ll check my AFR from there

Going to take me a little while to come up with the money for the FIC and boom slang.

    Thanks!

Drive with O/D off in town. And leave ECT power on. consider something like a Borla Pro XS to reduce back pressure. Those things may help reduce the ping.

That’s what I have back in. I do octane booster for insurance every other tank and sea foam and alternate. It makes me feel good I guess and allows a little more freedom in driving style and gears. The wife is starting to like driving it and asking to go for drives. I don’t have to worry as much LOL.

If you're going to use octane boosters, there are only a couple worth buying...the ones you get at most auto stores and gas stations do pretty much nothing (can take a dozen of them just to increase the octane rating by 1 point).

Torco is the brand I've heard recommended the most, but there are a couple others more readily available online

I would go slow. We were expecting 4 psi at this altitude (6000 feet) and got up to 7 on a stock pulley. Each truck is different. Auto tranny is different than MT. There will be stupid check engine lights. It’s always been easy like a hose was too old, hose came loose etc... the MAF is the brain. The newer the better on the MAF. I think It’s important to work out all the kinks before upgrading pulleys etc,,, you will look forward To driving.

The most benefit I’ve gotten is from the sea foam. It’s smooths it all out and less noises. You are correct with the boosters. I’m not feeling anything.

I filled up once and my truck was pinging like crazy. Like super loud. I was worried I did something to my motor it was so bad. I bought that VP stuff from autozone and it cleans it right up.

I got bad gas, or someone put 87 in the 93 tank.

I'm always a bit afraid of that happening. One time in 3 years I accidentally hit 87 by mistake when filling up...after a few gallons I realized what I had done and restarted the pump with 91, just drove conservatively until the next tank

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on just bolting it on for now and running it as is for a while. I'm about to hit 100k on the odo and have an MT. I see some of you are running IK22 plugs. Should I just throw those in while I'm at it? I've been running 91 in the tank since I bought the truck in early July.

I wouldn't put the ik22 spark plugs in until you install the supercharger.

I run those plugs. It’s what everyone recommended and the ones I had wee were 18 year old. Those plugs work better. I wound up doing the Timing belt and water pump (18 years old) drive belts. Etc...I did the thermostat too. I am not planning on selling this truck so it didn’t matter.

I would get the AFR gauge. It will help you drive the truck and know your boost and AFR. Also, John (1997Tacoma) has run a S/C for years and years. He’s pretty much seen and done it all. He’s an awesome resource for questions, advice and help. His truck is amazing

Icon/TC Mid travel, TRD S/C, PNP Greddy EMU, 625cc injectors, 2.2 pulley, Hayden tranny cooler, AEM wideband, TRD boost gauge.
If our type of supercharger is too eager to go into boost maybe your diaphragm in the bypass is leaking, bad vacuum line to it, vacuum leaks in general or you have some kind of drag be it trans, rear diff, heavier rims etc making you have to throttle more while driving.

The supercharger bypass is really simple. Vacuum in the manifold due to closed throttle, bypass enabled to recirculate charge air. Start to open up the throttle to leave a red light, get on freeway etc and vacuum drops in the manifold and the bypass will start to close up, forcing supercharged air into the engine.

If your blower is super eager to boost, I would check the bypass setup.

Yeah you definitely have to run 2 step cooler spark plugs with the supercharger (Ik22)...if you don't you'll get spark knock which sounds a lot like pinging and it will hinder performance.
