3.4L supercharger

So let’s not confuse the fella. The *updated* tensioner is the exact same auto tensioner that’s come with the supercharger for many years now.

Maybe its defective, mine was slipping 3 years ago and got a new one and now no slipping, they are cheap to replace

 

Im sure they loose some spring over time. But I replaced mine and no change. I don’t think it’s defective.

Once the belt slips enough it glazes over and becomes much more slip prone.

It probably slips more on a Auto since the gear changes are much faster and the ratios are bigger between gears.For this reason do not redline it in and let it drop to 2nd. This will always make the belt slip and once you’ve done that might as well replace the belt because it will just get worse.

 

Im at sea level, with an auto. Ill play around with the alternator adjustment

 

Be careful. If you make it too tight it could fuck the bearings in the nose cone or potentially somewhere else. the Magnuson directions specifically state to set the alternator to the center.

The pulley is just .17” smaller and the belt only contacts one side of it.

 

Speed shops will address this with different types of finishes applied to the pulley.

There are actually different types of course coating that can be applied to the pulley if it’s slipping to help.

I don’t have a SC but a buddy of mine did on his 1st gen and he said he found that going to a steel pulley vs the aluminum ones had a lot less belt slip and gripped better. One day I hope to throw a SC on my truck!

Absolutely they do

 

I wonder why people even bother with aluminum pulleys...it's not like a steel one weighs a ton.

 

The center rips wear down and loose contact with the belt and the belt then rides on the sides of the pulley, under load the belt then slips.

They say Aluminum is better r “for less heat”

 

Both of these are shot and the belt has skid marks on the ears from slipping.

It’s the pulley that’s the problem NOT the belt.

If you see all the paint gone on the center rib area, that’s your problem

 

I just wonder what the point of an aluminum pulley is in the first place...in my mind aluminum parts are usually wanted for their weight savings over steel but pulleys don't weigh hardly anything to begin with. So why even consider an aluminum one?

 

Because aluminum conducts heat more than steel, maybe helps as a heat sink and I think it cools off faster, something like that

 

Easier and cheaper to produce in mass?

 

I order a new supercharger pulley that’s going to have the thermal grip coating applied to it hopefully in a month or so.

 

From The HSS? Are they using the Vulcan Grip? The website seems like it was reserved for OEMs
