Do you suspect I’m fine to use the 2.2” pulley with my 7th injector set up however they sent it to me?
whoops. Maybe I’m typing faster than I can read.

So, I’m still working on my FIC 6 tune
I have it pretty well dialed in for the 2.1 pulley, thinking about putting the 2” on

For most folks they need to add in some timing retard to keep from knocking. Everyone’s truck is different.

FIC6 is discontinued. A certain government agency would love to see an entire industry disappear.

How do you retard the timing? Is that where needing an FIC comes into play? All I’m going to have is the 7th kit and the Innovate AFR/boost gauge

When you boost a engine you need to do two things. Add fuel in boost and retard the timing. Toyota being a bunch of cunts decided that they didn’t want to give TRD or anyone else access to the ECU to do this. Which is why we have piggyback computers. They allow us to intercept sensors and modify the signal. It’s a hack way of doing things but it’s be only option.

The AEM FIC (fuel injection controller) and URD 7th which used the SplitSecond AIC (additional injector controller) both have the capacity to alter timing and add fuel in boost.

While the AEM had far more features and is more advanced the URD 7th is easier to use for a novice.

when you set up the software and connect a laptop to the PCU (piggyback control unit) aka the 7th, you’ll have two maps that can be altered. Timing and fuel. If you hear pinging(knock) in boost you bump the timing retard in that area of the map (say 3psi 1800RPM) and save it.

With the fuel map you either add or subtract fuel to get a target AFR on your wideband. Then there’s closed loop fuel enrichment. But that’s mostly set up already. You shouldn’t need to change it much if any at all. Google URD AIC UTUNE. Read it over several times. It’s not going to answer all your questions but it can help elaborate a little more.

Is the AEM FIC legal in Cali for smog? @Shortman5

Thank you for explaining that to me in terms I can understand! Sounds like there’s a little more involved than just plugging everything up and walking away. I guess I’ll see if I detect any knocking on initial runs, then mess with the computer adjusting the maps like you described. That might be tough, since I’m going to assume that is going to require a PC and I only have Macs.

I’m thankful to have you guys and your knowledge here willing to help me figure this out.

No. It’s been discontinued anyway. neither is the 7th. But you can easily get away with it. These devices will only fail visual.

Was that the only true computer to adjust timing and fuel? Whyd they discontinue?

    No. The 7th injector can.

you’ll have to call AEM to ask.

But from what I understand you can't adjust the 7th timing tables, etc, have to buy or download different ones?

where do you get that? You absolutely can adjust the 7th maps.

    I agree
    Methanol is good for cooling
It can improve fuel ratios, but only in open loop. The ECU fights it in closed loop pulling fuel out as methanol is added.

let’s try to keep this thread on topic with S/C, I’m sure there are other great treads on suspension.

Yup, I've passed CA smog twice now with the 7th injector installed. The techs don't know to look for it and as long as you cover the fuel line it won't stand out. I wrapped mine in electrical tape so it just looks like another vacuum line.

First of probably many questions for the 7th injector kit.

I’m wiring the new fuel pump and am concerned about the connectors they provided and said to use. The directions say “these connectors are designed to be submerged in gasoline.” Are y’all applying liquid electrical tape to the ends? I thought they would be heat-shrink connectors but they did not shrink. I would have put a heat shrink sleeve over them had I known this, but they’re connected now. They don’t seem waterproof to me, but what do y’all say? I’m not sure if the liquid tape will deteriorate being submerged in gasoline.

mine have been just fine like that. Make sure you use the proper crimpers though so that they’re good and tight.
