Yea just press them out the back. they drop into the intake channel and they you can just grab them. Don be like me and fight a blind hole puller for a couple hours and then break out the dremmel..... I didn't wreck anything, but was a little pissed when I found out they could have been beat out he back... Well at least the information is out there now. When I did it last october there was no good info on how to get the rear bearings out.

Yeah I was super hesitant to mess with it at first but they just come out one of the intake holes. Hardest part is getting the sc level to press them out.

Haha, I had sockets, wrenches and slabs of metal placed all over the place to get it level. Big pain in the ass, but eventually worked out well.

How do you get the new bearings seated in their place?

I just lightly put some oil on the outside of the bearing and in the hole of the sc. Then used a socket upside down and lightly tap it in. Takes a bit of finesse but should go easily.

Has there been any information/ write-ups on how to replace the bearings on the front of the rotor plate? My s/c is grumbling and I want to replace all the bearings inside it next week. I replaced the nose cone with a TRD nose cone a few nights ago.

You can't without highly specialized tools. If I were you I would have it rebuilt by Steigemier porting google them, they are the best there is.

Got a vid of the "grumbling"? It may not even need a rebuild.

Yeah that's not sounding good. Usually the grumble/rattling goes away when revved. I would recommend a rebuild.

I drove it to work and back. It sounds "better" now; but I went ahead and ordered the rear bearings. Plan to take the S/C off next weekend, push the old bearings out, seat the new bearings, and replace some vacuum hoses while I am in there. This 2001 4R was not shown a whole lot of maintenance past oil and tire changes.

Anyone know of any air intake upgrades that can be done? Besides the deck plate mod - previous owner did it and I am not real impressed so far.

The rear bearings are pretty easy to replace, hardest part is balancing the SC to press them out. You're doing just the rear needle bearings, not the rotor plate correct?

Some people go AFE or K&N, but I've had good luck with my deckplate and ISR mod. No complaints on my end.

Just the rear bearings - yes. No press; was going to use gentle hammer taps with a correct sized socket in the same manner I have done for seating bearing races. As for the ISR mod... think I will pickup an Airraid tube.

Supercharger, Allpro suspension, trail gear sliders and bumper, full URD goodies, 31" Swamper SSR, custom flat deck, lots of body damage.
If you are thinking you need to do the rotor plate bearings and seals, give the very nice people at Embree Machine a call. Wade and Alicia will hook you up. They do some mods to the bearing plate that makes it better. I have recently had mine done with new coated rotors and it is a work of art!

Haven't run it under power yet but it spins quiet as can be on the bench with a drill. Can't wait to get er all goin.

    Cheers, YC

That will be an option when I finish putting my wife through college. Until then... Yeah.

Just going to throw this pic out there as a heads up. I guess not all the S/C rear bearings will just fall out the back. I ended up having to take mine to a local race shop to get them pulled and the new ones seated. These bearings had ~175k miles on them.

But you can easily see that right side does not go through the back into anything. Even the left side would be a little tight IMO. This is a second gen supercharger.

They definitely fall out if pressed through. They will come out of the third intake manifold after you shake it around. Scared the poop out of me doing it for the first time but it does work. I will be doing mine soon and can take a video for reference.
