Is it possible to make the 3.4L as powerful as the 4.0L? I know the 3.4L Tacomas are cheaper

    I'm brainstorming ALOT right now...

haha, I have my buddy's 09 this week, and It doesn't seem that much faster, it has more torque, but one you get going, it's not that different, and that's with only a deckplate mod and exhaust, I think with some headers and a cab back, deckplate mod you'd be haulin ass!

Always remember there is no replacement for displacement. A very wise race car driver once told me that.

very true, but it's not a huge difference to begin with, with the same amount of money, your 2nd gen will be faster, but yea, I'm sure you can get the 3.4 to be faster than the stock 4.0 with minimal costs

x2 they are fast trucks, but i still think some work would needed to be done to get it like the 4.0

I had a '96 3.4 2wd five speed. (sold it last month) It was awesome. I also drove a '08 X Runner. The X Runner may have been a LITTLE quicker. Consider that the 1st gens were lighter.
The 3.4 got a consistent 26 mpg. Sorry I sold it and got the 2010 4 banger. Worse gas mileage.

Mike's truck is a reson why. That and my dad still owes 19K on my truck..... I was going to help him with the payments BUT its a little out of my league. If We (My dad and I) pay full for a truck...... its my playground:D

I know the 3.4L is just a tad less but thats obviously because there's less liters.

But I'm sure with all the performance components out there, You can get the 3.4L the same or above a stock 4.0L

I wouldn't buy it, I like to buy my vehicles from old ladies or old men, they may not have the best maintenance records, but they haven't been driven hard either, that truck has obviously been pushed pretty hard.

and when you buy a vehicle that MAYBE hasn't been maintained perfectly, a can of seafoam, a new fuel filter, and a switch to some synthetic oils, including trans and diff's will get things back on track, you should also look for something with low miles, that way you can keep this one for a long time.

another problem I see with that truck, is that you probably don't like some of the mods he has done, which means taking those off and doing your own, which may be a hassle.
I see he has a CAI, but the deckplate would be better, and he probably threw out the stock air box.

I agree on the senior driven status. And it may have been pushed hard, but not enough to where it looks like its going to fall apart.

And yes any time we buy a used "older" vehicle we swap EVERY fluid out. No matter if it has already been changed.

I like most of the mods that are already on it. The no back seat, and the support pipes from the cage are REALLy in the way of the driver and Passenger it seems.

And I can find a loaner stock box on here or craigslist, so that can't be too hard either.

Thank you for your input though!:)

yea it wouldn't be a bad truck, I guess i'd just rather build my own.

I agree that cage looks to be quite a nuisance for the driver, especially when you really start to haul ass!

Yeah I can understand that. But around this household there is nothing but perfection...

And your right, it needs to go through the air vents and down under the cab to the frame
