This might be a dumb question, but here goes anyway...

Does anyone know how Atkinson cycle engines respond to exhaust modifications??

All engines require a certain amount of back pressure. Adding a free flowing aftermarket exhaust typically reduces back pressure. This is all fine and dandy with an Otto cycle engine, but what about Atkinson cycle?

When I turn the key, I like my truck to roar to life, not whisper. Currently have the TRD exhaust on my truck because stock is way too quiet.

I'm definitely not looking for more power by adding an aftermarket exhaust (I don't really even believe the TRD exhaust provides any more power). I just want a nice little rumble.

How about when you push a button? Will all models be push button start or just the Limited?

Keep in mind the valve timing reverts to normal Otto cycle near full-throttle, so existing exhaust systems developed for the likes of the IS350 should still work as intended.

Then the least invasive and least expensive way is to cut off the stock muffler and welding an aftermarket muffler, leaving the rest of the exhaust system untouched.

In all seriousness, the 2016 TRD OR will be my first Taco and I want it to have some sound to it as well. Are the TRD OR quiet? The only Taco I could test drive was a 2015 Sport.

2nd gen Sport and Off Road models sound the same. No one knows what the 3rd gen sounds like yet, unless you go by the few videos out there where you can't really hear it.

    Now, no more....

When you turn the key, all engine noises are masked by the belt-driven radiator fan running at full speed at startup. Sounds like a Mack truck, for better or worse...

Toyota V6 motors don't really do rumble. We are more likely to get something like this if we're lucky:

"Rumble" was the wrong word. "Throaty", I guess, is what I want. Anything is better than the whisper quiet stock exhaust. Of course, we haven't heard the 2016, but I'll bet it's about the same as the stock 2nd gen.

I'm anxious to hear the 3rd gen. Direct injection engines sound totally different.

The 3.2L V6 in my Audi sounds like a diesel when it idles, but she does purr like a kitten.

Yeah - I definitely expect some diesel-like sound at the lower RPMs. The Atkinson cycle Skyactiv motors sound and drive like diesels.

In a truck, I don't really mind that.

Ironic because they're about as opposite a diesel as you can get (low compression). I havent heard one but want to now :)

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
    No engine requires back pressure.

How will it sound? We'll have to wait but I wager it wont be any different than any other V6.
