30,000 mile service costs $1,100???

So I just got done with my 25k service on my 21’ OR. The service writer says to me when I pick the truck up that everything looked great (figures) and that the next one, 30k, is a big one. “All the standard stuff and a full fluid flush: engine oil, both diffs and t case, brake fluid and power steering fluid flush. Oh and it costs $1100 so save up lol”

Is this true? How the hell can this cost $1100? Is it like retribution payments for all the “free” toyota care service?

I was gonna go somewhere independent to get it done anyway, but $1100? Sheeesh

It definitely costs that much if you let them do it.

 

Unless you drive through mud holes for a living, The only fluid you need to change at 30,000 mi is your oil. Tell that service writer to take a hike and find a better dealership. Because that is just criminal.

 

I’ve always thought 30k driveline is over kill. If you tow or hard off road sure.

I’m a bigger believer in 60k major service, Toyota diffs aren’t as sensitive as people seem to think.

No. Plus I don’t think the brake fluid and PS fluid needs to be flushed that early. All of that and the rest of the fluids you can do yourself pretty easy

 

Read the service schedule in the owners manual. Only let them do what is required in there. The rest are dealer Recommended and are just up sell revenue source for them

 

Nothing needs flushed at 30K. Maybe diffs and t case changed but not transmission, brakes or cooling.
60K maybe trans fluid change. 100K maybe brakes and coolant depending on age.
Don't get took.

 

Do your brakes earlier than that. You can self bleed at home, just make sure you top off the reservoir between each wheel bleed action.

 

How often do you guys get your oil changed? 10K or 5K?

 

Less than $200 in materials and parts - so yep at shop rate plus materials and hazard material disposal costs they will ask for a Grand. Typical stealer tactic. Learn to do your own work or pay up. Absolutely nothing on the service requirements a person with tools and time can't do and do as well as the under paid tech the Stealer rides like a bitch while pocketing all the profits. An independent shop will be a third less. BTW - all your service interval costs will be equally as $$ and the same screw job they just quoted you. Find a dependable independent shop or do your own work.

 

Brake fluid and power steering fluid need no maintenance whatsoever at that mileage under normal use.

The rest you can do yourself for 2hr of your time, $100 in fluids, and a few common hand tools.

 

someone here recommended sucking out the brake fluid with syringe out of the reservoir and then refill, not the ideal way but no need to bleed and easy to do.

Depends...time or mileage?
I drove 90K in two years. No way brake fluid had moisture. If it takes 8 years to hit 100K? Replace fluid for sure.
