FYI, most Toyota dealers are likely using other brands 75W-90 gear oil for transfer cases, if you want Toyota Transfer 75W LF you may have to order it since they probably don’t even stock it. My dealer doesn’t even use Toyota motor oil, they use Pennzoil 0-20W synthetic they get in bulk through the Southeast Toyota dealers association.
    Interesting video:

A good read on Toyota 75W transfer case oil, it’s mostly for mpg improvement with the thinner oil, no surprise there. If you live in a colder climate it may be worthwhile, if not I would be fine with a high quality 75W-90 if i had 4wd. As noted in the video above other brands make a 75W transfer case gear oil. I think the car care nut has it right, more important to change gear oils every 30k miles.

I plan on using Amsoil 75W-90 gear oil for my rear diff and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0-20W motor oil at my next change after reviewing various specs and tests. Because I get to choose lol.

Yes, I believe the YT link information is correct, but I always verify any information given on YT by independent sources given by anyone, as even trusted sources can make a typo.

I’m perfectly fine using the 75W-90 gear oil that was originally recommended in the 2015 and older Toyota Tacoma 4WD models in the ’16 model, as long as it meets Gear Oil GL-3 (GL-4) or equivalent specs.

Nothing bad is going to happen, but you may diminish fuel economy by an unnoticeable amount, and a dubious cold weather performance claim advantage that will not matter once the drive-train is fully warm.

For sure, the claimed added performance and efficiency is not worth the exorbitant higher price being peddled IMO.

I know people with Toyotas, Hyundai, Kia whatever with over 200k with no regular maintenance. They drive it until it has an issue then fix it. Y’all are silly. Drive it, repair it, sell it when worn out, don’t worry about it.
