This is an excellent point if your interested in reselling,

I also like the idea of taking the frontier price to haggle, even
if you can't get it even,
    any would help

Yeah but wouldn't that be $4500 less in payments and interest, if OP finances? My brother has a 2010 Frontier and loves it. They are both great trucks! Good luck!

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Nissan. My new 84 720 I put 300,000 miles on and my $400.00 (12years old, used when I bought it) 93 Hardbody were the best vehicles I've owned. I would still be driving my Hardbody but a girl offered me $1,600 for it!

The Jury is still out on my Taco.

I owned my Xterra for less than 6 months before coming back to a Toyota...just FYI.

That's a lot of money. It comes down to your preference.

I sat in a Frontier and was completely uncomfortable in the front and the back seats. The front felt like I was sitting on a milk crate. I didn't even bother to drive one.

Post #14 contains a very satisfied Nissan customer.

For the money you owe it to yourself to spend a lot of time driving both vehicles. If nothing else, if you're still with Toyota use the Nissan offer as a bargaining tool.

I drove Nissan Hardbody/Frontier trucks for almost 25 years. My first was an '87, and my last an '03. I usually kept them 5-6 years, and 120-130K miles. Over the years, I had a single day of downtime (decel fuel cut-off switch failed on the '87.) One day in the shop, and less than $200. That was the only maintenance issue in all those years, and all those miles. And I'm a contractor, so my trucks get used as trucks.

Whenever it came time to buy a new one, I always priced Nissans and Toyotas, and until this year, Nissans were always 8-10% cheaper. But when I priced '11s, comparably equipped, the Toyota was about the same price (I bought a '11 access cab 4 cyl auto SR5). But if a Nissan would have been even $1000 cheaper, I would have stayed with Nissan.

Other than my trucks, Toyotas have pretty much been my vehicle of choice. We have our 4th Camry, and I also owned an '87 MR2, and a '91 MR2 turbo. But my current toy is an '06 350Z. If Toyota ever returns to the market with an affordable high-performance sports car, I suspect there will be another Toyota in my garage.

This is really a slanted view to ask that question. Some pretty open comments so that is a plus. You should get what you like and what you can afford.

resale is not just about price when you sell it. Keep in mind that if you get in an accident in a few years and your car is totaled a tacoma owner gets a fat check and the frontier owner will get enough to go buy a sentra...

to add to my point. when you own a toyota you are rarely upside down on the loan because it depreciates slower than you paying it off.

in a nissan you can have a 2yr old truck get in an accident and the value can potentially be less than what you owe.

No, I don't have to type it out every time - I have it in Notepad so I just copy and paste. :p

It's not just a TTORA smiley, either - it's on several boards that I'm a member.

    Back on-topic...

OP, the reason I traded in my Xterra was the fit and finish (interior mainly) just was not the same quality as all of my Toyota's. Rattled from day one and the rear hatch trim panel covering the third brake light kept popping lose so every few days I'd have to back there and pop it back on.

It did drive amazingly well and had a ton of power, though.

X2 I was looking at the Nissan's when I got my Taco. I didn't like the seats in the Fronty either. Aside from that I liked the Taco better for a number of reasons, mpg's, resale and it seems a little bigger were the main ones. I could have gotten a Nissan for the same price as I got on the Taco but had leather and sunroof. If I could have gotten it $4500 less, well It would have been a hard decision. The mpg's meant a lot to me since the Frontier got about the same as my Ram I traded. I don't know how some are claiming 20 mpg out of the Nissan's. I know people that have or had them and they all told me they can't get more 15 out of them. So beware of the mpg and good luck!

    Um....this isn't even a hard choice. Toyota>Nissan any day....

My dad was a toyota guy (had an '87 pickup, then my '97 taco before he gave it to me). He bought a frontier w/ 15k miles on it because it was a good deal and he HATES IT. The interior is falling apart (headliner, plastics coming apart...98k miles) and the fit and finish is nowhere near the quality of a toyota. And the truck is nowhere near as capable as a taco/toyota off road. He regrets it everyday that he didn't spend the extra coin on another tacoma...

    So....buy the taco...period

Sometimes you got to go with the deal! and that sounds like a deal, plus Nissans have been around just as long i believe, you know those nap Z`s they scream like those 22r and 22re`s!

I'd use the Frontier deal as leverage to get the Toyota. Walk out on them if you have to but I'm sure they'll come down a bit.

    Positives:

Fronty more stability on the High Way

The Frontier is a good truck. Had a 2002 SC Crew Cab LB. Loved it. It would pass anything but a gas station and pulled like a mule (hauled the wife's RAV4 back from S.C. to Florida and it took the hills without a problem). That being said, I am even happier with the Tacoma. Even more power, more room, and the seats are more comfortable and better gas mileage. Get the Tacoma provided it does not put you in a financial bind. You will be happier in the long run. I like the idea of taking the offer for the Frontier to the Toyota dealer. They probably won't match it but they might come down enough to make the Tacoma more affordable.

I dont think the rear disc is a posative.....the Tacoma stops in a shorter distance with its disc/drum combo......
