I'm in canada, so it's different, but we do often have rebates on them.
I've seen 8k discount, even then I wouldn't get one.

Do you intend to get the mod bug? If so you'll easily spend more than 4500 MORE modding a fronty than a taco since there is not a good aftermarket market for them. Other than that they are decent trucks.

OP, you should go ask the same question on clubfrontier.com and see what kind of response you get. Drive both and decide for yourself. Your not going to get a non biased from many around here.

I'm still suprised that I get around 20 MPG with it. I keep track of every fillup and its still about the same the worse I got when I first bought the truck was 17 MPG like the first tank or two then started to get better. Truck rides nice it also has about 1,000 pounds then my last Toyota. I have the 5 speed auto in my truck too. I did like how most of the features I wanted came in the SV model. Mine is just getting broken in at 8,000 miles.

Resale value is the key word here. Ok you get an additional $3000 off? Unless you ride that bitch til the wheels fall off and don't plan to resell it, ok cool. BUT if you get a taco, and ride that bitch til the wheels fall off, I'm sure those wheels will take a few years longer than the Nissan to fall off. You pay for quality, you get quality.

    Taco > frontier.

I have an '06 frontier king cab. I can get 20 mpg with it fairly easy. Only had minor issues since buying it new. Had issue with tpms sensor and the fuel sending unit. Overall truck is solid. Turning radius sucks.

Aftermarket is huge for the Tacoma especially when it comes to wheels. I personally like the look of the 4 dr Tacomas better. Which is why at some point I will transition to a Tacoma. Plus my Nissan service manager is an ass.

Went and drove an automatic Frontier SV crew cab with the long wheelbase which costs about $2K more than the the king cab cuz that's all they had. They offered it to me for around $24. It comes with 17 alloys and XM which you need the TRD w/JBL package to get. Sounded great on paper but I just didn't like it - can't get the LWB crew in maunual so guess that deal is off.

Went then to see the Suzuki Equator which is a Frontier with a better warranty andthe guy said I could get into the RMZ-4 (off road edition) with a Fosgate stereo for the same price - hmmmm............after all this I still like the Taco for more $.

I gotta admitt, those frontiers and titans would be me second choice of a truck before a beefed up tundra. They are neat little SOBS.

Had an xterra, it got crappy mileage I was lucky to get 280 miles to the tank (21 gal) also to get to the spark plug on the passenger side of the engine you will most likely have to remove the intake manifold. It can be done without removing the intake manifold but u have to have very very small hands and have a hell of a lucky day.
    Don't do it!!!

I had an 87 hard body with 360k and it ran like a champ till i got rear ended by a full size pick up and smashed into a full size. Looked like an accordion. The engine still ran after the smashing.

Nissan's reliability isn't where it used to be. The Taco is still best in class, but the Frontier is on par with the Dakota and Ranger:
    http://www.jdpower.com/autos/ratings/dependability-ratings-by-category/midsize-pickup/

The discount on the Frontier is because it's selling poorly, worse than the Ranger (which is getting axed after this year).
