I am shocked at how cheap the Frontier is here in Vancouver.
Canada has a very different price point on trucks than the US.
Tacomas are very rare, and in fact the Toyota dealership here
was eyeing mine since it is a sport access cab, which does not
exist in BC. I had to explain I imported the car, and the savings was about 7000.00 dollars.

Ok, anytime nissan is being compared to a DODGE that is a major turnoff.

I work at a Toyota/Nissan dealer, and get to play with both manufacturer cars regularly (plus, I own a Tacoma). I really like the Frontier. It's a solid truck. In general, Nissan cars are far more exciting to drive than Toyota's, so it felt more alive than my Tacoma does. It sounds and feels like it is just waiting for me to open up the throttle. However, I felt it's just not as refined as the Tacoma. Rear discs are nice, I suppose, but my drums are a lower cost of ownership because it'll be another 100,000 miles before I have to check them for replacement. The boxed frame made the Frontier feel more jittery than my Tacoma, and the jury is still out on whether the boxed frame is better for this class of truck. The turning radius blows on the Frontier. Illuminated 4WD switch from the factory was a nice touch by Nissan, but easily fixed on the Tacoma. The Frontier seats, in my opinion, are more comfortable than the SR5 seats I have. The Tacoma's tilt/telescoping wheel makes for a more comfortable driving position than the tilt only steering wheel in the Frontier.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either truck if it's just going to be a grocery getter/weekend-project-around-the-house-truck. If you plan on modding and wheeling, go with the Tacoma. The aftermarket support of a Tacoma crushes the support of a Frontier. But, as has been mentioned, drive them both, and see which feels better to you. Carefully compare the trims and features of both trucks. Nissan does not offer a backup camera on the Frontier (and I don't think they even offer an auto-dim rearview mirror).

I really didn't care about the back up camera or the auto dim rearview mirror when I purchased my 2011 10 days ago but after i got used to them. I am glad my taco had the camera and auto dim mirror.

I have been a tacoma owner for 10 years and other than a dead battery cell on a toyota battery, i have had zero issues.

    tacoma has a timing chain
    frontier has a timing belt

How many machine guns did you see mounted on a frontier in Libia?... Turn on CNN :D Both are great trucks but I think the OTD price will even out in 5-10 years or when ever you decide to sell the truck. The tacoma has crazy resale value, I almost doesnt make sense to buy a used one.

Cool list of what has chains and what doesn't, thank you! I registered the truck on the owner's site, I like the fact that I can pull up my truck's work history any time I want! :)

yeah the boxed frame, moon roof, rear discs, little extras (MPG computer) on the fonty are nice.

But the height, long box and comfort of the Tacoma made me spend the extra cash on the Yota

I'm surprised in all this talk about Nissans and Toyotas that there was no mention of Nissan's media attention over radiator problems from 2005 to 2010 model Xterras, Pathfinders and Frontiers. To my understanding there is a bad part in the radiator that coolant would leak into the transmission and cause them to fail. Nissan is extending the warranty of the radiator but only until 80K miles. Sucks to have purchased a vehicle from them in 05 or 06. Chances are you would be S.O.O.L. I know I have the link somewhere.

I like your way of thinking...I got a deal on a Ranger Edge in 2005 and loved the truck for the 6 years I had it. I did NOT love the value of it when I traded it in. About 20% of the original purchase price

I know they had timing chain issues the first few years of Nissan 2nd generation Frontiers. Usually the first few years of a new products they always seem to have some bugs they need to work out. I like to wait and get something after it's been out a while and they make improvements. I read up on the Frontier and that's why I went with a 2011. The trucks been out 6 years so most bugs have been fixed..

I loved my old Frontier. Took it to Glamis and went over a razor back. Needless to say after it was repaired, I sold it and purchased an Altima. I too also had an 86.5' hardbody. Solid truck!
