30K service coming up - I drive entirely on pavement, no off-roading and engage 4WD once a month for a couple miles on straight roads. I have towed a 2750 lb Travel Trailer approximately 900 miles in the last 10K miles on the truck.

Would you consider this severe duty and change the transfer case and differential fluids? If yes, with this use scenario, would it be ok to use Mobil 1 75W90 or should I spend the extra for something like the Amsoil 75w90 Severe Duty?

I try to avoid my local dealer when possible but am debating taking this in for the latest transmission TSB and having them do the transfer case and differentials.

    What would you do?

I would do nothing except change the oil and grease the drive shaft.

I would not consider your use "severe", if that helps. One could debate the merits of various synthetic oil blends and brands all day long and still not arrive at a satisfactory conclusion. Even if your use was "severe", I would think the Toyota blend would be sufficient for a 30K mile change. I'm getting my 30K mile service at the dealer on Friday and I don't think they're planning to change the fluid.

I'm thinking the rear diff and remaining normal maint items sounds like a good option. I'll look at the other fluids come 60K. Thanks to those who replied.

I just changed the transfer case and front diff tonight at 40k miles.

The T Case was super clean, the front diff was gross and looked like liquid metal.

    I used 75w/90 full synth GL5

Tomorrow I will do the rear.
