Honestly think it looks really good. I had ordered all my stuff to do the 6in with 33s and after started reading this thread. Quickly started second guessing my decision and thought it would look dumb, but was extremely pleased with the outcome, and avoided the extra headache that comes with 35’s. Long story short, do what you thinks going to look good and don’t stress about other people’s opinions like I did!

Anyone with '18+ have sensor issues with a 6"? I have your typ. bilstein 5100 lift and no issues, dont know if the extra height will mess with it?

I hear there are more headaches running a 6 inch lift than 35s. I have 35s and only had to cut my frame, wheel wells, get a high clearance front bumper. Basically remove the whole front of the truck.... but I still hear 6 inches fucks more shit up.

Hahah I guess I was referring to the re-gearing aspect In all fairness I was going to go with the 4in, but because of my wheel offset I still rub even with the 6in. All in all, nothing will ever be perfect once we start modifying these pickups to taste. To each his own

Awesome thread, thanks everyone for chiming in. I'm trying to read as much as I can before pulling the trigger on a lift. I thought 6" BDS Fox system would give better clearance for 285x70x17 or 33s vs a 2.5-3" system. Do we lose functionality off-road with a 6" over a 2.5-3"? I'm trying to figure out why a $2500-3600 2.5-3" system gives superior performance over say a 6" BDS FOX system for the same price. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

My opinion newer to the tacoma offroading what not. is that the icon stage 3's seems to give you the most upgrade to suspension for offroading without over doing it. The 6 inch just seems excessive and due to cost more in the long run. Idk if your dailying it or building it to becomes a crawler but the icon with the rear leafs and front control arms with the great shocks seems to give the best offroad and on road experience. I personally only car about tacomas going over rocks and i havent been able to find a icon kit rock crawling. But i do believe with some trimming and such 35s and maybe just maybe 37s can fit on a 3inch. But honestly who knows.

Lots of different answers to all those questions.
My opinion is that yes you gain more clearance for 33s with a 6 inch lift but it is mostly from top of tire to bottom of fender which generally isnt an issue with 33s on a 2 inch lift anyway so the benefit is none in that aspect. You generally gain only a little more clearance to the cab mount with a 6 inch lift vs a 2-3inch lift. I had a 5 inch lift and with my offset rims I still needed to do the CMC for 32s. Over the years I'm now at 35s and 4 inches of lift and have a ton of room to the cab mount. Wheel choice is the biggest factor for clearance.
Do you lose functionality with 6 inches of lift? In effect, yes. You raise your center of gravity and put an added amount of stress on your suspension. Is it a massive factor? Unless you're doing some serious crawling, no. If you're building a rock crawler then stay away from bracket lifts. A 2-3 inch lift gives you 2-3 inches of lift under the front crossmember. A bracket lift will give you mixed amount. Generally a 6 inch bracket lift will drop your crossmember down 4 inches and also give you 2 inches of suspension lift so technically a 6 inch lift is only giving you the same lift as a 2-3 inch lift at the crossmember. A 4 inch lift like I have nets me 0 lift at the crossmember. I have the same clearance as a stock Tacoma(if I had stock tires on) BUT I have 35s so that gives me an extra 2 inches of clearance from the tires but I have no extra wear and tear from the increased CV angles from a 2-3 inch lift. You can see how complicated things get when it comes to lifts. There are no clear cut answers and there are pros and cons to every lift. It all depends on what your realistic goal for usage is.

Inksin, that absolutely makes sense! I understood the drop brackets interfered with the actual clearance but didn't realize it was pretty much equivalent to the 2.5-3" lifts. I was just concerned with getting the most wheel travel for my $$$ and sounds like each have their own benefits. 4" is on my radar too. Thanks for explaining.

That, and most 6" lifts, don't look like they will give you any more wheel travel than stock. The UCA/LCA has not changed, just the LCA attach points have been lowered and the spindle extended, along with huge blocks in the rear. It seems that any more than 3" suspension lift requires both arms, shock mount relocations, etc to gain anything besides frame/cab height. The rear axle and LCA's ground clearance are always going to be limited by wheel/tire diameter.

pretty much. You can play around with bump stop heights and gain a little travel with any lift setup but travel gains are very limited and CV angles become the major factor for travel at that point. Only way to really increase travel is to go with a long travel kit but that's big bux. Moving the whole wheel outward will give you a bit more travel while maintaining acceptable CV angles. The rear is gonna be 1 of 3 kinds of lift (blocks, add a leaf or new springs) and each of those have pros and cons. Beyond that is shackle kits and spring swaps but that becomes a bit of work but I gotta say that chevy 63 swap does ride real nice

A few guys have talked about how having more than 33's you end up going through axles like crazy if you offroad.
