    This thread is almost as old as my son.

    Unless you're in snow that's more than axle deep, you actually want a skinnier tire. Skinny tires more easily break thru the surface and penetrate to the harder ground underneath where there is more traction. Skinnier tires also require less trimming and hammering to prevent rubbing.
