I was noticing today that my rear end was hot to the touch. Is this normal with bigger tires?

Also fluid level is right on so its not because the fluid is low and I also checked the breather and it was clear.

I could be wrong but I think it's normal with any tires. Mechanical things heat up when you are using them.

I was thinking it was normal. I do have a small leak that came from my 4.88 install. But I keep the fluid full until I can fix the leak

what grade gear oil are you running? and how often is it changed out?

I am going to be stepping up from 75w-90 to 75w-140 and see if that helps

Seems to be a trend for people when they are hard as shit on the trucks rear gears like I have been.

75 90 lucus. The only one east coast gear will hold their warranty too

I actually just got 500 miles on it today and changed out all the gear oil for the recommended break in period

Anyone have experience fixing a leak where the clamshell bolts to the rear end itself? East coast gear would for their warranty but I don't want to make the drive and would rather just do it myself

That's what I'm thinking. I never touched my axle with factory tires so I have nothing to go off of. I'll be getting a laser thermometer Just to have an idea on where it's at

I'm gonna tighten the bolts on the housing first to see if that's where the leak is coming from. I sure hope so, that would be the easiest!
