My African Gray got attacked today by a skunk. The skunk bit my bird and then it started screaming. My grandma came out to scare the skunk away along with my 2 dogs. This is what happened to my bird. hopefully we can get her to a vet in the morning because the 24 emergency ones dont do birds around here :[


my mom is a nurse so she stopped the bleeding and put some antibiotics. hopefully she'll make it through the night :[

i will. i cant sleep i just want to watch her and make sure shes okay. but she just looks terribly in pain. when you want to pet her, she usually tilts her head to get petted, now she just moves it a little then just cant move at all .. damn im just gnna sleep

Parrots are tough as nails. Hope everything turns out OK. How did the skunk get to the bird? Was he on the ground? I worry about hawks getting at mine so whenever I bring him outside I keep him in a cage on the deck. Best of luck.

That's sucks man. There is a local bird farm here the specialize about Parrots if you willing to travel down here? it'll take about 40 mins for you to get here from where you are...

yeh a hawk almost got mine and my dog when it was a puppy. wings hit my head.. lol. but yeh im bringing her to the vet right now. wish me luck. thanks guys.

 

i'm going to try the local petsmart and then local vets. if worst comes to worst ill do that.

 

Hope the fuckin skunk is missin a chunk. Those grays aren't exactly the most tolerant or nicest to strangers. Hope the bird recovers without issue. Looks beyond pissed off in the pic.

 

Yeah...I'd be interested to see what the skunk looks like. Greys aren't real nice unless they know you....then they are big cuddle bugs. I can't go into another room without mine following me looking to get scratched on the head or played with.

 

can birds contract rabies? just a thought, but skunks are the #2 carrier behind coons. may want to check that out.

 

I'm guessin I was a gray in a previous life,lol, if that's possible, because that's exactly how I am....except I'm followin the wife around to get played with! Anyway, +2 on the rabies check.

 

Just got back from the vet! Checked out okay and no rabies. now i just have to administer antibiotics for a week or so and the wounds will heal up. they look pretty gross without the blood on her head.. but thank god she'll be alright. thanks!
