3g shutdown

Hey Jimmy, hope all is well with you.

Do you know if the smart phone modules that are on 3g will be affected by the 3g shutdown? Thanks!

No, they will not. And in fact, in the app, click the 3 bars at the top left, then click on replacement program. If and when that day ever comes, you will be swapped out because that's how we roll! You're a customer for life! Not only during a specific data signal technology's life...

 

Thanks for the reply! Just to clarify, once 3g is retired, the replacement program sends out a 4g smart module?

 

Sends out whatever is the latest at the time when eligible, yes.

What if I just want to track and monitor but do not want remote start/stop?

Who else has access to the data?

 

VERY EASY, if you have a remote start, then don't plug the data link into the remote start and instead just hard wire the power to 12V on the smart module. We trim these wires because all cases, this module complements the setup. If that's the case, you would mention this in the notes at checkout and we won't trim the +/- wire. At this point it becomes stand alone module not tied into your remote starter, with only GPS. If you don't have a remote starter, the above still applies.

 

It is my understanding that all devices that connect to 3G in the US will no longer work as of July 1st of next year when the last 3G network will be shut down. Is this not correct?

 

Almost...you have to initiate it, it's not going to automatically send it to you which makes sense, because what if you don't have the vehicle anymore? moved to a different address? etc..

Just got a email from CarLink stating that 3g is shutting down and my device will no longer work as of February 2022 and that I can order a 4g modem for $99 with free year of service. Unfortunately I just renewed a couple weeks ago so there goes 50 bucks down the drain lol.

 

Who said you're out anything? If anything, they're going to even ADD another free year to your current subscription.

 

Yea that's what the email states but when I go to purchase it it changes to one year from activation of the new device. Doesn't matter I am going to upgrade anyway the end of this month as I use it to much not to so we will see what they actually do.

Jeremie you mean? Everything above should still apply to you if you have a 3G module.

 

Jeramie was great and I have no complaints about the whole process with him I just think he isn't doing it anymore hence why I was in here looking for information.

 

Doesn't matter, this is a factory direct deal now...he is not needed for this process.

 

Is there a cost to replace the 3g module?

 

I get that now of course.
