3rd Brake Light

Can you remove and replaced the 3rd brake light with a aftermarket one?

 

Yeah, super easy. Just two hex screws. Plug and play. I used the Bermuda black replacement.
Easy to find on Amazon of EBay.

If you do replace, I recommend running a light bead of silicone sealer around the lens, mounting surface, and screw holes.
These aftermarket products seem to always let water in.

 

When I removed the screws the light was still on the tight is anything else keeping it on?

 

It's just an adhesive gasket. Slowly pry/peel it away. Once you get it started, it will be obvious to see the removal.

Are there any aftermarket third brake lights with a bed light? My old, beat up Ranger had one, and I kind of miss it.

 

Yes got mine off Ebay was expensive but worth it!

 

Weren't people replacing them with an OEM light from a GM truck in the past with success?

 

Not sure about that but mine is a aftermarket led one.

It's been awhile so the sharper folks will have to help but I recall a thread or threads here at TW where people discussed using GM third brake lights with bed lights on their 2nd gens. I remember thinking it was cool but since I run a camper shell never bothered following up on it.
