3rd gen 5100's w/ AAL

I'm no expert but, it's my understanding that the 5100 are better quality. So it would be worth getting and setting at zero perch.

 

It is a step up.. I installed them about two weeks ago and I was gladly impressed to see that they are 2” in diameter. 4600s are 1 1/2”.

 

I personally had the same debate with myself about the 4600's and 5100's. I'm glad I chose the latter and couldn't be more satisfied with the outcome. The 5100's are definitely a step up and I think you'd be pretty happy with it. I have a RWD Sport as well and I installed 5100's all around at stock height. Compared to the stock Sport shocks where I'd feel the roads bumps and dips reverb throughtout the cab, you can feel the 5100 shocks doing their job and absorbing the bumps and imperfections of the street.

 

That’s good to hear man. I searched this whole thread and googled a ton, couldnt really find anything w stock coils, perch set at 0 for stock height/anyone wanting just a refresh.

Any pics of your truck? Also did you have to add a spacer to your drivers side?

 

Replaced spacer/block lift with 5100/887 pre-assembled coilovers and 5100 with Headstrong AAL in rear. I reused my tapered shims. Also installed carrier drop and diff drop. Got an alignment. Truck rides great! Much smoother than OEM Sport set up.

This is the only picture I have post 5100 installation. I did not add a spacer, tbh I did not know about the whole Taco Lean thing when I installed them. I didn't measure before or after and I'm not too concerned about it. It does sit a little higher than my old mans 2021 Tacoma SR5, but I can't say for sure if my trim level already sat higher than his to begin with. I assumed they sat the same. Regardless, the ride is fantastic and I completely endorse it. I've seen your truck in other postings. Your wheel selection has really encouraged me to follow suit with the AGP's. It looks really good. Instead of Wildpeak AT's tho, Ithink I'll go with the Wildpeak HT's. I drive a ton.

I don’t seem to see too many SR’s around here. Glad you like the suspension setup- exactly what I want to do end of the year!

 

Its performing well and I'm happy with it. I put it through its paces yesterday: hauled a couple loads of gravel and also took it on a long drive on basically every type of road (two tracks to interstate).

I like to think of the SR as a blank slate I can add to it however I want.

 

I’m with you- MSRP at least 10 less than a TRD- bang for the buck for sure. I do think the rear leafs are undersized for this truck- my one year plan is exactly what you are doing.

Money is tight so I’m doing the timbren bumps stops for the rear to start.

Read many pages of this thread and getting a lot of mix replies..

ECGS? Do it while doing suspension or not much needed since only doing 2" of lift?

1/4" Spacer.... needed? Mine doesn't have a lean currently but I'm on stock OR suspension and 1" level spacer on front.

Lastly... wheels.. I have a set in mind but want feedback on offset. I'd like to go 285s on 16x8 -10 or -12. With that being said, what trimming will I need? I have high end clearance up front so I'm just worried about the CMC or UCAs. I'm currently piecing together my lift and will do everything all at once. Just prepping myself ha

 

My impression is it is a bit of crap shoot to whether you get vibrations or not, but the chances increase the higher the lift. Others should chime in with their experiences.

I set my 5100s at the third setting (1.1") and ended up getting vibrations (though fairly slight). I'm going ECGS bushing install this weekend. My two cents is you might as well do it while you have the strut off; it will give you more room to work when you pull the axle and install the bushing.

5100s all the way around. Stock coils set at 3rd notch. Winch and bumper On 265/75/16. Rides really good

 

Did you have the bumper before the 5100s or after? Have a similar bumper to install and am curious about the weight affecting what notch I set the circlip on.

 

Installed bumper cpl weeks after. Haven't noticed any change in height.

 

I did a 1.55" lift via 5100's and 3AAL and I did the ECGS while I had things apart... on my 2023 with 500 miles on the clock. I've read too many times about folks asking about this noise or vibration after the lift. Do the bushing and be done with it..... especially if you do your own wrenching. Borrow or rent the puller and insertion tool from someone. Neither are optional IMO.

I just did 5100's all around a little over a week ago. 2" lift with OME springs up front and 2" from a Headstrong AAL 1.5" with a .5" block in the back. No odd vibrations but I'll probably do the ECGS at some point. Overall I'm very happy with the ride.
