Yeah I cut it, just use this for reference and keep track of the wires on the back of the plug before you cut it. The smaller prong on the other end is hot.

If you mark the wires before cutting them you'll be fine. I thought of the same thing when I cut the head of the cable off. I ended up using a mulimeter to check continuity from the outlet to the end of the wires just to make sure.

Thanks for the extensive writeup and tips! Knocked it out this weeked-- went very well. This is a long overdue mod and will be certainly appreciated on our next road trip.

A few tips I would echo/add from those above:

    1. For good measure, I recommend disconnecting your battery before splicing into the inverter wires. Yes, you can disconnect with the button, but it's not difficult and offers additional safety assurance.

    2. Do use a multimeter to trace your wires and check your connections-- I would not have done this without one. I also recommend labeling wires for your own sanity.

    3. For those using the desktop USB/AC Outlet Grommet from Amazon: I did not find enough room inside center console to fasten the threaded ring on the back of the grommet. I may have been able to fit it with some precise hole location, but my primary goal was for the mount to be as flush as possible. I used a 3" hole saw (not 3 1/8" as Amazon's description offers) and established a snug fit with a thin single wrap of electrical tape. It really is snug, and you can yank a plug out without worrying about pulling out the whole outlet. I may go back and glue it in place after a while, but wanted to option to change it out just in case the outlet crapped out.

    4. Make sure you plug everything back in before closing up the center console. I forgot to plug in the 12VDC connection for the in-console outlet and had to disassemble all over again to do this .

Glad it worked. There should be plenty of room inside to screw the ring down tight. After drilling the hole there’s some extra pieces of plastic on the inside you have to take out.

Yeah you’ll have to get the ring screwed down on the inside

I had my console disassembled for something else today and I made a note to investigate what these larger 8 gauge wires are for. I tested with my voltmeter and they’re the 12v in from the battery that power the inverter, in case anyone is still wondering.

I am serious...if I can get 100 orders, or close, I will order these up. I wouldn’t mind having one myself. If someone @caribe makaira would like to start to collect a list of people for me in the mean time, we will get it going :)
