My .02. I have owned 1st gens,2nd gens and now my 3rd gen which is a TRDOR. My last truck prior to my 2016 was a 2011 TRDOR. I have never depended on anyone else opinions about my purchases. It might be nice to see what other people think but in the end I made my own decision. I based my decision on my ownership prior history. There was things I liked better in my 2011 truck than in my 2016. There were things I liked better In my 2016 than my 2011. I consider that a wash. I understand the OPs complaint about this truck. I felt the same when I bought mine. I would have to say I think my truck has gotten a whole lot better now than when I first bought it are either I have gotten used to it. I also believe toyota trucks are still the best out there for your money. Now that I have had mine since Sept. 30th 2015 I will have to say If I decided to trade it off I know I would now buy another new 2016 Tacoma hands down.

Love mine, but maybe I'm just an easy to please idiot. I did get a manual though.

I looked at a lot of options, and this one just seemed like the best bang for the buck. Plus, it came with a manual transmission :)

Guess I'm in that club with you.

I upgraded from a second gen, and my third gen is far and away an improvement in every single way.

I would recommend to anyone to buy the manual and stay the heck away from the auto. It is probably the difference of the truck getting a positive or negative review from most real world owners. Totally different animals.

I'm very happy with my '16 TRD sport 4x4. I don't have tranny issues, or any of the other problems others note. It drives great, accelerates fine, etc. I think it's a great truck.

My only real complaint is the seating position.

They can't be that bad since they are almost impossible to find right now still and Toyota is back logged on orders for months.

My two cents going back to eating my popcorn

    A) have always been in demand (even the 10 year old designed 2015s) B) all new Tacoma means, the cult following will be clamoring to get the newest and greatest C) increased marketing by Toyota for Tacoma.

Its true ford did it with the exploreer put it on a Tarus chasis and now people love it. Nissan did the same with the pathfinder. They build these trucks for off road. Then people complain when they buy a truck and it drives like a truck. Consumer reports hounded 2nd gen tacos for rideing and feeling like a truck inside. Which i dont get because it is a truck.

I love my Tacoma. If you know how to drive it the tranny shifts normal, give it more gas! My mileage isn't changing with throttle input. It's actually gets better lol

Just my observation, but if ECT isn't doing it for you, you really bought the wrong vehicle. ECT is the alternative mapping and has all the snap a midsize pickup should ever have/need. If you want to race around town dodging and weaving, there are a ton of muscle cars out there. I honestly don't get it. I hit the ECT about once a month for a little adrenaline fix, lol. Otherwise the tranny/engine is pretty well tuned. Any remapping should be very minor.

Oh yeah. ECT ECT ECT. What is that? A conveniently located 'snappy' alternative tranny map - stock.

Ok, so even with the manual tranny, I don't find this to be an overly fast little truck. Even when I almost push it to the floor it's not pulling like some vehicles. If I drop it down to a low gear maybe it will, but I'm not giving up mpg for that, it revs way too high. I drove a Toyota Venza with an AT 3.5 and it pulled like a dream. Anyways, it's ok, I came from a 5.7 Hemi and this truck keeps me from being a douchebag lol

Give me twelve more gears to shift through. Put another grill on my tailgate. Move the oil filter to the roof next to the shark fin antenna. Give me candles in my projection beams I have to light every time I drive at night. Then I will be happy!

I must be lucky or oblivious. Love my truck. Love to get in it and drive. Love the look. Like the way it drives! I didn't buy a Ferrari, I bought a Toyota Tacoma. It so far exceeds my expectations.

No hate on for anyone...especially a Taco owner regardless of the generation or opinion. Just think the use of "bro" sucks. After all, he is not your brother!! I don't GAS if it is a common expression...it still sucks.

It sounds like the only way to get any kind measurable performance out of these new trucks is to get it in a 6 speed.

    Add a 5.7L V8. What you said. :D
