3rd Gen BHLM and light mods

So I did this in two attempts, first time I only painted the outer piece, it was much brighter than expected but ended up being able to see the white dots of the leds slipping between the DRL and the headlight. Can kinda see it in the reflection of my picture.

Second attempt I painted everything. No more white dots sneaking between the plastics but however it is much much dimmer. When the DRL’s are in low power they’re just a small glimmer, high power is better but still a lot dimmer than oem.

 

Here’s a better picture of the first attempt and the white light leakage I was getting. Didn’t take pictures of the second attempt, sorry.

 

The correct way would be to swap the white LEDs with Amber ones. You keep the same opacity of the front lens without scarfing intensity. Looks good though.

Didn’t you end up having a board failure on one of your modified boards? Ever get that looked into? Was it a factory defect on the board or something cause by desoldering and soldering on new ones. I got an extra set to risk but after reading your post about your dead DRL I decided not to.

 

I think at this point I might just leave them alone, just waiting on your LED side markers and trim plates so I can pull my lights off the truck one last time and fix the drivers side lens F-ed up with the original mod.

Don’t touch the inside of your lenses folks, you’ll deeply regret it and end up buying a light for parts like I did.

 

How did you fit 2 demon eye boards in there? Custom fabed brackets?

 

Wow looks awesome. What kind of amber LED did you use? If you don’t mind me asking. Want to go fully amber lol, but not sure where and what kind to get.

Ok so question for yall doing these mods. All the following questions are in regards to non-LED drl lights.

Can you wire a halo up to the drl circuit while keeping the amber halogen drl still in the loop? I assume that's the easy part, the bigger question is how does the halo react since the drl bulb is also the blinker bulb?

Will the halo be forced to blink as well? Which I would assume would be a nasty out of sync blinking since I've always seen a slight delay with leds turning on/off.

 

Not sure with the halogen turn but I changed mine to brighter led since I have the blackout turn signal cover. However, my halo. Drl, turn and mirror signals are all in perfect synchro with each other. At least so close that I can't tell.
