3rd Gen Bilstein 5100 now available

I kinda messed up, I didn't get any prior measurements, but if it helps from the ground to the fender lip is 39 front and 39.5 in the back (keeping the tape centered on the center of the wheel). As far as mpg, this truck has been bad from the start, but now at 75mph with no wind, I got 16.7 the other day... not bad at all. I haven't been to the ranch yet, but on road no rubbing yet... I know some guys like to regear and that's fine, but I really don't think the 285s hurt this truck too bad... I'm pretty damn happy with it

 

After researching I actually decided to do the 2nd gen 5100s. My reading lead me to believe I could get about 1/4" higher on the top notch with 2nd gens. I used stock TRD O/R springs on the top notch and ended up with almost exactly 3" up front. I measured and remeasured - and at worst it's 2 15/16" lift up front. I put 2" blocks in the rear and still have approximately 3/4" of standard lean.

 

Not to Hi-Jack, but looking for more info on these same 5100 shocks.

I hate the ride from the stock shocks and want to upgrade, Bilstein said that if I run their 24-263108 with the strut spacer it will void my warranty (what kind of BS is this). Is anyone running a 3/1 leveling kit with the Bilstein combo of 24-263108 frt & 24-186728 rear and if so what notch are you running on the front shocks (#1 = stock)?

 

Most are running on the 4th notch. You could run a lower notch and use a small top spacer which shouldn't void a warranty and should make the ride a bit better. On 3rd gen's i think they are running into UCA's around two inches of lift.

 

With an already 3" lift?
If you check out the LRO kit, you'll see that they address all known problems associated with a 3" lift strut spacer kit - except the crappy shocks!

 

Sorry i missed read that. That lift looks like a top spacer. Just run the shock at the lowest setting and the lift should be the same. What tacoma year model do you have?

 

2016 Sport.

 

I currently have a 2016 sport suspension in my garage that i am going to put on my 2015. I am adding 1.5 inch spacer to the front and and aal to the rear. How was the ride when you had it stock? I may have to use my stock billy's

 

I had the lift setting here before Toyota even delivered my Taco, so I only drove it for about a week before changing it out (I don't really remember). I also have since then put on a

Now that the 3rd Gen 5100s have been out for a while I was wondering if they are just as good as the 2nd Gen ones? I know a lot of ppl were worried about the extended and collapsed length of the new 3rd Gen ones. Have these been fine with top plate spacers or are ppl bottoming them out? I plan to run ome Springs and a .250 spacer for the lean and I'm still on the fence between the 2nd or 3rd Gen 5100s.

 

Anyone?

 

I've got 888 springs and Gen 3 5100's but until my truck arrives I'm useless for ya. For me the extended and collapsed lengths were negligible. People are reporting 1/4" higher lift height with the 3rd Gen 5100 from what I have seen. Is that true? who knows!

 

Thank you for the reply. I have heard of them giving you 1/4 in more lift which is barely with anything. You never know, that might be all you need to keep from rubbing depending on your setup. I am going to be running ray10s with 275s so the .250 in might help me out on a 2in lift.

 

depending on which springs you go with it may not matter anyway but you're right - that extra .25" may help avoid rub or may not. with 275 you're probably fine and won't need new UCA's. I have 285's going on with 888's so I went Gen 3 and SPC UCA just on case.

 

Here is a chart from Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road gave me. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what you will accomplish with your setup.

 

I finally took the time to measure my truck on the flattest spot I could find. So these measurements might not be perfect, but should be close enough. My truck is a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road Double Cab short bed 4x2.


Front drivers: 20.25” | Front passengers: 21"

Rear drivers: 21.5” | Rear passengers: 21.75"


So looking at that, my truck’s driver’s side is about 3/4” lower than passengers side and I would like to achieve about 1.75" – 2" inches of lift in the front. That said, I'm planning on achieving this with the following:


FRONT


OME 885 Coil Springs: 395mm in height 590 pound spring rate (pair)

Bilstein 5100 part number 24-239370 (pair or 2nd Gen) set at 0

1/4” Top Plate Spacer (driver’s side only)



REAR


Bilstein 5100 Standard Length Rear Shock part number

From what I can tell that would give me about 2 inches up front, which might end up settling down to more like 1.75. Does that sound about right?

Pretty sure this will not get me in 285/75R16 range, but I guess when I get new tires later on I can go up a notch on the front struts and add Dakars or something in the rear.

I just got my Bilstein 5100's today. What are the torque specs for the top and bottom? Does anyone have a link for a FSM for our generation? Thanks!

 

I don't know the factory torque specs. All I can find is much earlier. 20 ft lbs top 74 bottom. I'm working on the rear.

 

Use the same torque specs from the 2nd gen. That is what most people, including myself have done,.

 

Low Range Off-Road list to torque the top 3 bolts to 47 Ft #'s & the bottom bolt to 61 Ft #'s
