I called Bilstein last week to ask if they were indeed making a third gen specific 5100. They said they were currently shipping and should be available at retailers in two weeks. I asked if they were going to make a third gen specific 6112/5160 and he said they were already being designed and should be available in two months. I don't know how reliable the information is, but when I called Them direct the guy who answered the phone gave me this information. It seems like at least the 5100 information was correct. I've had 5100's but want to try 6112/5160 this time around, looks like I misbehave waiting a few months in hopes new ones are revealed!

Lots of people run 5100s because they are cheap.

Lots of websites have 6112 and 5160 packages for 3rd Gen already set up. Are we sure Bilstein hasn't already released them?

Just like the 5100's that are technically for the 2nd gen models, the current 6112/5160 combo will work just fine on the 3rd gen models. I suspect all their doing is changing the ring/notch heights on the new shocks to adjust for new weights and such. Wait if you want, but I don't think it's necessary... Have had my 6112/5160 for almost two months now, and don't regret it one bit. Just my .02¢

But we are 1 inch taller than the 2nd gens. So any lift is set up for 1 inch less

You just keep reiterating the same factless guess. Just pointing out it doesnt make sense from really any angle. Are they going to make them side specific now since every 3rd gen tacoma has different weighted springs side to side? See these tiny differences are no different than a 15 to a 16. I cant imagine them doing a seperate shock for the 3rd gen. But maybe im wrong. And maybe toyota has 14 pn for the same spring. Dont know havent had them all in hand.

If you look at the bilstein website or any reputable off road site you will notice there is no 5100 for 3rd gen. If what you believe is true about the coils then why didnt bilstein make 5100's for each 2nd Gen spring? I believe there are at least 3 difference springs. I am pretty sure bilstein is going to develop a shock for the off road model and everyone else gets the same.

Why would shocks be side specific?

@TOYTEC what have you heard about the 5100s for the turd gen?

You are correct that both the 2cd gen 5100's and 6112/5160's will fit and work fine on the 3rd gen. What Bilstein says they are adjusting is the valving, I'm guessing because the 3rd gen's stock coil spring is different for the 5100's and on the new 6112/5160 they will revalve to accommodate the new coil spring it will come with. I have no doubt that if I installed the current 6112/5160 my ride would be like "butter", but if they came out with a 3rd gen specific setup the next month I would wish I had waited. Being that I have a 2017 I will wait, if I had a 2016 they would already be installed!

They won't physical change any of the coil overs. They will change the terminology to say it's a one inch lift.

How do you know this? Do you work at Bilstein? It seems like they absolutely would change the coil spring for a 3rd gen specific 6112, being that 3rd gens come stock 1" taller due to a new coil spring. I highly doubt that they are just going to change the manual to state that all notch settings are 1" less than before or overload the current spring more to give the same lift per notch setting as existing!?!

I didn't know that the 6112 were adjustable. I bet they reengineer it completely and make a new product.

Why reengineer? Do you understand the most basic way a suspension system operates? Reengineer= more parts, time money etc. If the vehicles behave the same way (not like 3rd gen is wildly different from 2nd gen) and weigh approximately the same, there just isnt a need. I hear nothing except the same bs. Do you do parts for a living? Do you own a 3rd gen? Have you lifted both 2nd and 3rd gen tacomas? If you answered no to any of these questions @bigfoote13 then you are likely less qualified to talk... just saying

We already know bilstein has built a new 5100 for the 3rd gen see @bulldog quote. I spoke with bilstein about oem 2016 replacement shocks and they are in R&D. So what is Bilstein likely to do???

No 6112 for a 3rd gen listed at toytec.....

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Front-Lifts-Coilovers_c_345.html

Bilstein site doesnt list it either.....

    http://cart.bilsteinus.com/search/mmid=469408/drivetype=4WD

Maybe they won't re-engineer and just put a new part number and adjust the stated amount of lift. But they won't sell and warranty 6112 as a 3rd gen lift under the current part number.

Bilstein site now has two different part numbers and different lift heights for 2nd and 3rd gen 5100's....

    Bilstein 5100 2nd gen - 0-2.5 inches of lift

    http://cart.bilsteinus.com/product/24-239370/421016/RWD

    Bilstein 5100 3rd gen - 0-2 inches of lift

    http://cart.bilsteinus.com/product/24-263108/469405/RWD

It does seem strange that the additional information is exactly the same.

What height are you going to run your 5100's. Stock coils?

Not sure yet. I was going to go with OME 885's, but I'm looking into maybe going with 6112's now....decisions, decisions.

isnt even a tough choice. 6112 are the balls. physically handle an oem shock, a 5110 and a 6112 and you'll understand. got mine for 575 shipped. cant imagine 5110 and coils being any less. plus engineered to work together is everything

edit: im running 2015 shocks/springs. my truck may just catch fire since it wasnt specifically engineered for a 2016....:boink:
