I'm planning on putting the 3rd gen coils on my 08 with 5100s. Just curious if anyone has done this yet and how they liked the ride with the 3rd gen coils haveing a much higher compression rate

Do you know the comparative coil lengths and spring rates?

717 is pretty stiff if that is correct.

    TRD OR: 550 lbs
    TRD pro: 600 lbs
    TRD Baja: 650 lbs

Usually the 5100s are paired with Eibach 600lb coils.

Because they were only $50 and I didn't know about the different spring rates till after I got them

I think they are also 550 lbs, but linear whereas the OR are progressive.

700 lb coils are usually used by guys running winches, bumpers and armor.

Is there something on the 16s that they need the extra support? I read that these are why the 3rd gens sit an inch higher and the springs are more for ride height

The 2016s weight 260lbs more than 2015. But I wouldn't expect the coils to be that stiff. Haven't driven one though, maybe they are not as spongy as a stock 2nd gen. Are the coils progressive?

16 coils definitely are not that stiff. wherever the OP got those numbers is wrong.

That stated the 16's do sit an inch higher in the front stock than the 2nd gens probably due to some extra coil length.

"We did send the springs from our 2016 out to one of our spring manufacturers to be tested for spring rate. We are doing this in hopes of developing a spring that will work well on the factory shocks and give a 2 inch lift. Similar to the 112-620 coils or the 521-600's we have. For those interested, i have posted the spec sheet. Spring rate on the factory coil did indeed come back at 717lbs/inch. Spec sheet is attached to this post"

I got the numbers from another post by toytec

i call BS, cus my dads 16 rides just as smooth if not smoother as my 2nd gen, and the both of us are TRD OR's with factory coils. 717 lbs would be CRAZY stiff. And its not like any of the geometry of the front suspension has changed.

Either way OP. if you use the 3rd gen coils expect an inch taller lift than 2nd gen coils on the same lift.

Id rock the 3rd gen coils on the .85 in setting if i were you. going up to the next step is going to be too much lift ( almost 3 in total)

Well I finally have my truck back. 5100s set to .85 with 3rd gen trd sport coils and a toytec AAL. my front now sits at 22" hub to fender and back is 23.5. I like the way it rides. Doesn't seem that stiff to me. Handles great with little body roll ands hits pot holes like they aren't even there
