Can you do a review on the Owl Cam? What view does the "in" camera have?

I have the Garmin 45. Nice little camera but the thing gets super hot.

Are you saying the A118 capacitor has enough juice to keep the camera on ~30 seconds?

I think you are mistaken. The camera's with capacitors have enough power (a few seconds) to close the current recording so that the file does not corrupt.

Most modern cars electronics system remain on for a period of time after you've turned the car off and closed the door behind you. Cars like Audi and BMW remain "on" for up to two minutes or more before they completely turn off.

Our Tacoma's with the auto headlights remain on until you hit the lock button. I know because I've tested this with my dash cam. I have the Street Guardian DC - only after the lights cut does the camera go into parking mode or, if disabled, turn off a few seconds later once power is out and the capacitor does it's job of giving enough power to close the video file

    Side note:
I don't get why BlackVue gets so much praise and attention. IMO I think it's overpriced for a low-medium quality dash cam especially over time they tend to lose color quality and focus, which to me are critical.

I bought my Street Guardian Panorama model dash cam back in mid/fall 2014. It's on the wife's daily driver and here's a video from a little over a month ago.. even with YouTube's compression it's still great quality

    https://youtu.be/LQR2k0VQpTc change to 1080p

If you're going to spend BlackVue level money then at least get a high quality brand with US based customer service and the owner is very active on the dashcamtalk forums.

No, I was generalizing while explaining how a capacitor system may function. The A118 has this type of system.
My A118 remains on for about 10 seconds after I shut off the ignition or remove the power plug from the camera. It may stay on for a longer period if I disable the screen, I may have to experiment.

On my Tundra and wife’s car I used a Rexing with hardwire kit and haven’t had a single issue out of either. On the Taco, I found a pruveeo on Amazon that a lot of people were talking about and it was like $50 for camera and hardwire kit, plus another $35 for SD card. The pruveeo has functioned as well as the Rexing and hasn’t had any hiccups. I liked enough I got another to put in my moms car. It’s tapped to my ignition so once I start the car it turns on and records continuously and will record over old footage once it hits the storage limit and upon shut off it runs from about another 2 mins before shutting off

I have the Thinkware F800pro 2 Channel (front and rear cameras). A bit pricey, but piece of mind is worth it. Hardwiring it was super simple!

I like my roav dash cam. It was cheap, takes amazing video and has a good app.

Where did you place the GPS module? I just ordered one for my A118C.

Is the left side of your dash cam obstructed by that plastic cover? I couldn’t find a mounting point on the right side of the mirror without that coming into the field of view.

I can see just a little of it. It’s not enough to cause any problems. I was more concerned with not being able to see it from outside for security reasons.

I mounted the GPS module in the upper right corner of the windshield, and tucked the cords under the headliner and the power cord behind the A post.

Another happy Blackvue customer here. I have the DR650S dual channel, its an older model so the price was right. Built in Wifi so I can access the camera feed and saved video with my cellphone in minutes. FWD camera is small enough to fit in front of the rear view mirror, I can't see it installed from my driving position. There's probably better out there but it does the job

My GPS module for the A118C works great. Even though the GPS data can't be an overlay onto the video. But, I did found a piece of software that will display your video and all its GPS data.
It's called Registrator Viewer by DATAKAM. Here's a screen shot from my dash cam footage...

    DATAKAM Player.jpg

The video is smooth during playback, my screen capture software is not very good.

I am trying a low price dash cam. A couple of days ago I installed a DDPAI mini dash cam. I got it off e-bay for $25.99. So far I am pretty impressed with it. It has a capacitor. It does not have a screen but does a Wi-Fi hook up with my phone. It comes with a remote photo button that I have stickered next to and right to the side of my parking brake. When I press the remote button I have it set so it takes a photo and saves 30 seconds of video. The 30 seconds is 20 seconds before the button press and 10 seconds after the button press. I think this is a nice feature on top of the usual scrolling video and the G-sensor video. When I got it, I plugged it in inside my home so I could figure it out, fiddle with it, and get the settings all set up. If I get some time I will write it up and post photos of the install. https://www.ebay.com/itm/132853194678?ViewItem=&item=132853194678

Nothing yet, I'm waiting to find a great deal, but none of the ones on the video.
    I guess I'll get the BlackVue DR900S, (4K) unless I find something with a 4 channel. Yes 4 channel.

I have a camper shell and besides putting a camera on windshield and one the camper rear glass I want add 2 cameras inside of the cabin on the rear (sliding window). One camera pointing to the front and one to the back.
This way I have a complete view if someone tries to brake in to my side windows front and back, plus a different perspective on a side crash or if I got unfairly pull over and reason number one, just to explain myself better on court why I pepper spray the idiot that came to close to my door on a road rage.

Overall I love it. Perfect location, I can remove it any time I want to put in the gopro. Depending on what model cameras you use, if it has a mini usb plug, you can also use the hardwire kit to power your gopro too.
