I have been looking at this as well. Still better than buying domestic full size, unless you get a diesel.

this is why I havent been able to trade my turd gen, i am getting lowball numbers on the trade value and the dealers always say its because there are too many recalls that toyota has not been quick to fix and they dont want to have the truck sitting for months on their lot waiting for a recall

This exactly. Poor timing, so definitely expect a market value dip.

I’ve learned my lesson on depreciation. I don’t buy new cars anymore. I buy lightly used that are a couple years old. $$$$$

Truth is this 3rd gen taco is the first new vehicle I've ever purchased. Have bought about 3 used tacos and 3 used pickups. 3rd gen is the worst driving experince of all Toyota's ever owned.

So we're back to another one of these threads again.... "I hate my Taco and now it's because of trade in value".

It was 2wd and when I bought it I lived in San Diego, after owning it 5 years I moved to Chicago so there was a need to go 4wd. It was a good little truck, just couldn't get around in the snow and the salt started eating the bed right away.

    Been 4wd ever since.

I knew you would be here lol. Take the hit and move on with life man. Life it way too short for a few thousand buck difference to cause unhappiness. I've taken the hit many times and as a matter of fact, buying ANY vehicle new is a bad financial decision, Tacoma or otherwise. Even if you keep it ten years! Good luck.

    Not really.

Our resale market is one of the highest in the entire US. Difference between new trucks and uses trucks can literally be couple hundred dollars. My 2013 was $24,800 new and in February 2017 with 58k miles, the same truck with that mileage was $24,300.

Region makes a huge difference in resale, so.. spare the third gen angst excuse.

You might need to read the rest of the responses again from the OP.....

For the rest of you complaining about trade in value, dealers are weeks from getting the 18s to roll in so whatever 17s sitting on lots are already competing against you. You're going to take a hit on depreciation on a 1-2 year old truck, especially this time of year.

It has nothing to do with reviews or recalls, it has everything to do with timing.

I hear that. Just cuz the fleet manager sold his brother in law a Tacoma at 2k under invoice, it shows up in true car pricing, then they use it against you at trade in.
