The latest map sd card being sold at the dealer is 86271-0e071, you'll pay a premium for it ($150 or more). Best bet is to fine the previous version 86271-0e185 (also listed as 86271-35015) for resale on eBay, the price for that one will keep coming down as more 2019's are sold. If buying off of eBay make sure they have a picture with the correct part number on the sd card.

One thing that bothers me about the Entune Nav. On my Ram, the Nav unit would show you 3 available routes to your destination. From shortest to fastest. You then could pick the way you wanted to go. On my Entune Nav, it gives you one route only. That sucks. Am I missing a setting or is that just how it is?

You should be getting 3 routes to select from, I believe they are labeled Quick, Short, Alternate. Maybe there is somewhere in the settings to turn it on/off, it should be on by default.

I just looked. I don’t see a setting...if you know where it is, I’d love to see it. Thanks.

Mine shows 3 routes also, came like that both in my 17 and 18 Tacoma. I don't think there's really any updates, as my 18 isn't even a week old yet and the navigation sucks on it. Side by side with Google driving home from CT to ME, entune showed 6h48m travel time, Google showed 5h18m. I kept them both open, and in mass, entune had me hit 91, while Google kept me on 395/290.

Also, when headed to friends house in NH on the way, entune had me drive past his road 1.6 miles, do a u turn, and go back to his street and turn, where as Google had me turn directly into his road from the start.

Entune Navigation is shit. Really wish they'd upgrade us to Android Auto so I don't need to keep looking at my phone due to complete distrust in my $43k trucks GPS.

When you select your destination and select GO the next page will show the routes, the quickest will be highlighted above the others. If you select OK it will select the quickest route. If you want another route on the right side of that screen there is a box named 3 Routes. If you select that it will show the 3 route options.

Hmmm. I’ll check again. I was going from Salem Oregon to Los Angeles and it had me going the 5 fwy the whole way. No option for the 101 or Hwy 1.

While not getting into the gps vs google debate, I believe if you check your map data, it will show a 17 version, the parts guy was pretty clear that the 18 update will be out in January, and Toyota is always a year behind.

Just relaying what I was told, my 16 has 2015 maps

How does the update get installed? Do you need to go to the dealer to have it done?

Just open the door on the HU, pop the card out, and slide another back in. Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be a need to do any special eject sequence?

So the dealer sells us the SD card and we do the install. Got it. I'll just keep using Wayz on the phone. 2018 (built two months ago) and it can't find a Rural King store that's been there for about five years. Things they DON"T tell you at the dealer.

Yup! There is no need for any dealer help on the swap. Waze is king!

I believe the Entune map database is a somewhat generic outsource. So, they are dependent on their vendor to provide updates when they are available. Sort of like my offline navi app (CoPilot GPS) that uses NMEA map database (lifetime free) updates. They can be a bit out of sync, but a lot faster than OEM navi updates.

This is so fractured that I'd bet that even the Part Dept doesn't have a firm handle on these, let alone the sales folks.

I may need to look into a portable GPS. Planning a trip out west to the Grand Tetons next year (I'm in Ohio). I can't trust cell phone service out there and certainly won't trust Entune.

I'd look into one of the many offline apps for a phone or tablet. They're as good or better than a separate GPS unit. You just need a good bit of storage space for the data. I've used the CoPilot app offline on several trips. It was $10 for the lifetime North America map updates and requires about 2.5gb of storage. It was the least expensive solution to try out. I haven't needed anything more than that.

No app or unit is as good as an atlas or a computer browser for planning routes, but for getting in and out, an app all-day-long. Hell, even Google Maps offline mode is pretty damn cool. The only limitation there is that they don't allow automatic route planning into unpaved areas, most likely due to past user stupidity and deaths.

    CoPilot:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alk.copilot.mapviewer

    Gaia (subscription based for offline):
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trailbehind.android.gaiagps.pro

    RideWithGPS (subscription based for offline):
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ridewithgps.mobile
This is probably the best route planning site that I have seen at ridewithgps.com in the free setting.

Backcountry Navigator (one time fee, I think?):
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crittermap.backcountrynavigator

All of these are also on iOS if that is your thing.

Wow! Thanks for the links. I've saved them for further review. Appreciate the help. I always carry a current atlas in my vehicle. Nothing beats them but it nice to have some sort of gps or phone app. I've never considered GPS units in the past since I've always felt they were overpriced (I'm frugal) and paper maps are my go to. Things change and I'm always looking for options. Much appreciated.

    No problem. You're welcome.

Similar here, but different. I always wanted a GPS unit but could never justify the price. I was over the moon when the offline apps appeared. But, I never had a good atlas or paper map. This has become a problem when looking for places to go while out and about. Usually, the folks that I am with had that covered. I'm about to grab an atlas to fix the problem.

Good luck finding a GOOD atlas. That is a thorn in my side as well.

When I first got my 17 in June of 17 the nav worked really well.
After maybe the second entune OTA updates then the nav started to suck.

It behaved similar as mentioned above, pick a destination, three routes showed up and before I could do anything it picked the 10hr route through dirt roads instead of the 5hr direct hwy. It kept trying to turn me aroukd even as I got close to the hwy exit
And that’s with a destination that I had stored the year before.

Really a bummer because it used to work great and it worked where I had no cell signal.
I have heard that the entune OTA updates don’t have anything to do with the nav but all this happened after a few of them.

Anyone have their radio mess up, like drop a bunch of your preset radio stations? That happened the other day. It put back a whole bunch of dead satallite stations over what I had set.
