I’m looking to lift my 2017 DC OR. I’m sure there is some other threads here that I’ve missed but I have already answered some of my own questions by reading through the forms.
The more I read about suspension, and the more I drive my stock Tacoma the more I want to spend. I have a work truck on the weekdays so my Tacoma is going to be dedicated to a lot more Offroad.
I am debating between a stage II and stage III ICON, and I’m wondering what other options I have. Also is this worth the bump in price. I originally wanted stage II, But I’m now seeing that I don’t get any extended travel with that set up. Is that right? Are there any other advantages to a stage III and are there any other systems I should be looking at in this price range?

The stage II kit will only come with standard travel coilovers in the front, sway bar relocation brackets, ICON progressive 3 pack AAL, and 2.0 resi rear shocks.

The stage III kit will come with the extended travel coilovers in the front, Tubular (Delta joint) upper control arms (not only to help accommodate the extended travel coilovers but also to help insure proper alignment spec) , sway bar relocation brackets, ICON progressive 3 pack AAL, and the 2.0 resi rear shocks.

In my personal opinion, I think the stage 3 kit with the UCA's is the perfect kit for 3rd gens (without going over doing).

Let me know if you have any other questions!

One shop I spoke with recommended me away from icon. Stating “they have a great marketing team but they leak more often. Stick with Bilstein if you can’t afford more expensive stuff.” I’m pretty sure he was referring to King and Fox. Keep in mind this is me trying to remember what he said while knowing very little about suspension.
I’m also wondering if a stage II gives any extra travel. If so how much? Also how much travel does the stage III give and are the shocks on the stage III extended travel system just longer or are there other differences.
I guess another question is, am I better off piecing a kit together myself, and why or why not?
I’m honestly just trying to figure this out.. and a bit of me is trying to justify this money. I went from thinking I was going to spend $800 or $900 to almost $3000.

I’m trying! There don’t seem to be a lot of YouTube comparison reviews for what I’m looking for though. Maybe I just don’t know how to search.. When I Google most of my questions bring me to become world. And thank you :)

Still not finding a real answer as to whether or not I should part things out. I’m just going out on a limb, but I think things are out of my budget.

Don't part out the Icon full kits. You're getting a pretty solid price as it is. I had this exact kit in my cart at AutoAnything yesterday and damn near pulled the trigger. But I couldn't get clarification on if their kit came with the tubular Delta Joint UCA's or just the uniball ones. The price at HeadStrong is just a bit more, but those DO come with the delta joint UCA's. From reading the ICON thread and seeing some pictures, I think Stage 3 is perfect for sure. @ToyTec Lifts, what sort of deal can you get us on this Stage 3 kit???

I’m seeing there are a few options in my price range. Looks like fox, ads, icon, maybe bilstein. Not sure of the advantages or disadvantages of different systems though. Merry

It’s looking like I need to figure out the difference between the different UCA’s as well.

Pretty much stick to tubular UCA’s with the uniball. All other brands have those. The ICON ones have the delta joint which apparently works as a uniball but also let’s you cover it for added protection. You can go billet but those are way more money..

Wondering what you ended up going with here. I have the stage 3 icon kit but they couldn’t get the rear shocks in time so I settled with Fox 2.0 with resi in the back. Everything else is from Icon stage 3 kit. Rid is a bit stiff and bumpy but I love the look I got and drives pretty good off road.

Ended up going with the SPC light racing UCA’s. I love them.
