I was thinking component 6x9 with 30-40w rms would be OK, or sound deadening for doors and different tweeters up top. It's not something I am in a rush to do though.

I've been kicking around in threads on this subject for a couple of weeks, and I have to admit i'm lost. I'm not usually the type to go full on speakers, amp, all the doodads, new sub, etc. I generally just get the tech package on any new vehicle and swap out the mids if they aren't up to par. It sounds like there is a lot of conflicting reports on whether that's an upgrade (yes, I understand the best speakers in the world aren't going to shine without proper power, but they're usually just better even on factory power) or even a downgrade (something with the JBL amp being tuned specifically on the factory speakers, and it being hit or miss on whether a set of speakers will play well?).

In any case, I generally defer to the experts. I have yet to find a list of speakers that folks have done direct swaps without changing anything else that they consider to enhance the sound over factory. Mind you, I don't have a volume issue, I just would like better quality sound, which up to now has been a pretty simple thing to get with better quality speakers.

I don't see why you can't swap out the JBL speakers as long as you get replacements with appropriate wattage and wire them up correctly.

you can swap the stock jbl speakers and see a gain in sound quality and clarity. It’s been done plenty. I did it over a year ago plus added sound deadener... Frankly the sound deadener helps tremendously. I’ve since gone back and covered the back wall, sub box and rear floor in noico deadener.

I'd be interested in how you wired stuff up, the speakers I was looking at are called fosgate primes and then maybe JBL tweeters up top with some sort of adapter. The fronts seem to have a factory crossover that's one thing that made me wonder if components might be better.

So looking back, is there anything you can edit/change at the top of your "things bought", I want to mimic your purchases and install..no need to re-invent the wheel here

Does anyone have a clear recommendation on upgrading the amp and or sub to improve loudness in my 2020 Limited with JBL. I have already upgraded the speakers w/2ohm JBL tweeters and Powerbass door speakers. Sound is better. Just not loud enough.

Thanks for this post, i couldn't find any info in search that retained the factory headunit. Going to attempt this on my 2022.

    Change the head unit
You could even do a Sony high power unit. New speakers and a sub with a amp and it will blow away the jbl system . Check out the units on Extreme Terrain website . They have prewired bundles that are plug and play

Is there any way to just relocated the factory JBL stuff and free up the storage space? I really want to put in a lockerdown long gun box behind the rear seats and would need to relocate the JBL system in order to do it.

It might take a lot of wire extensions, but you can try mounting the amp under one seat, and a sub box under another :notsure:

I'm fine with that. I assume i'd have to make the extensions myself? And possibly the sub box?

sub isn't going to fit anywhere else. you could try some ultra-custom stuff and adapt an 'underseat' sub to the factory sub output(bypassing most's internal amp), but there's significant risk it won't work anywhere near as well, but you won't know 'till it's all over.
