So I JUST got my 2018 Tacoma TRD Offroad. love the thing to death wanted it for a long while and have done quite a bit of research as far as lifting it as my #1 thing was to get this thing lifted with 33's ASAP.

Through my research I realized after a few weeks of poking around, I need some damn help. hahaha.

So basically my goals here are:

    -Lift the truck 2-3"
-Fit 285/70r17s ( i understand some minor trimming will need to be done )
-Not go broke ordering parts (yet)

Where i'm at now is between either an ICON stage 2 kit. And the bilstein 5100 setup that seems like the forum favorite. My issue with the 2nd option is I really dont know where to begin as far as what to get.

Any help is greatly appreciated, from education to literally linking me the things i would need to make this happen.

    :boink:

    here is a tldr,

2 inch, don't really need UCA's but they do help. 2.5 or more, you need UCA's. stay away from budget lifts (rough country ect) i can't stress this enough, BUY ONCE CRY ONCE. bilstein lifts are great, there are better out there but for the price they are the best. think about what you're going to do with the truck (serious off road, pavement princess) don't buy a 3k dollar lift if you're never going to use it for anything other than speed bumps. also, the forum dosn't really like anything over 3 inch lifts lol.

I should've included this in the post

My goal is capability. I'm an impulsive guy and when my buddies say let's go somewhere I dont want to be held back. I dont mind spending the money on a great suspension that will last and perform.

But at the same time I will still be driving the truck to work..

i have abused the hell out of my 5100 5160 set up. don't regret it. they ride amazing too. but again, there are other amazing set ups out there. talk to marie @HeadStrong Off-Road tomorrow. she has the respect from this forum for a reason. always good service and honest.

also, be aware that 285's on stock rims are hard. not alot of shops will mount it cus they say "it's to wide" ect. make sure if you're using your stock rims, you have someone willing to mount it.

oh and alot of people want to regear with 285s (4.88s or 5.29s) cus of the loss of power from weight and resistance. just something to think about.

Wont be on a stock rim. And I've scratched the surface a bit with regearing. Seems like a great option for the future

If your end game is just 33s, you can do that without lifting at all by putting 255s on it- there's a link in my sig to an exhaustive thread about this.

The factory suspension on our trucks is bilstein, and they really arent bad. Definitely more than enough for light trail work which sounds like your plan. Plus, doing 255s and no lift maintains your factory geometry, your MPG, and doesnt require cutting/trimming like any of the 285 and up sizes will.

But if you're set on fat tires and "lift", then more power to you! Just giving options

If your looking for a simple kit with a bit of lift, we have UCAs and can pair those with some King 2.5 coilovers that many love as its a simple yet effective option. Any questions just give us a call!
