How would attach the 3rd gen plug into this?

Edit: I don’t need the defrost I just need the powered mirrors

You have to depin the plug on the old mirror side and put it on the new mirrors.

Ahh I see what your saying. I have to depin the 2nd gen mirror plug and place those wires into the new 3rd gen mirror plug after I depin that one.

If you had both male and female plug ends for the 3rd gen mirrors you could use them. but since you do not get both sides with a mirror purchase you have to use the 2nd gen plugs. or outsource another plug type.

I’ll probably end up Just going the depinning route. Once both plugs are depined how did you know which wires from the 3rd gen mirror to pin into the 2nd gen plug to activate the powered mirrors? Trial and error?

both 2nd and 3rd gen use same color wiring for each system. Just look at the plug on the truck side, easy peasy!

There is a 4runner mirror mod which lets you add motorized folding mirrors. The process is rather straight forward, and involves just as much effort as going to a 3rd gen mirror. It might be worth checking the 4runner forum for the process and the parts involved. You can get an updated mirror, motorized folding, heated mirrors, and turn-signal mirrors all a the same time if planned out the right way.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks like you do. I recently broke the plastic on my 3rd gen, can easily be fixed. Will he buying 2nd gen mirrors to swap onto my truck.

Any update on how you switched over the electrical system. I'm doing the same thing on my 2005 toyota tacoma.

I had to tap into my turn signals from the front and run the wires all the way through my firewall and into my doors, you don't exactly have to depin the connectors but it's the cleanest way, for mine I used slide connectors and made sure I knew which wires were what. Did the powered motors first cause they hook up no problem and then I hooked up the signals, I just haven't hooked up the defrost cause frankly I haven't felt like it

Did anyone get their defrost running? If so how’d they go about it?

Sorry bud I haven't, not having it hasn't made any difference to me but if I had a wiring diagram I could help you out. The three dials for your air pops right out, on the back there's two big plugs, I believe as long as you know what wire turns hot when you turn the defrost on then you could just tap into that wire and run it to you're mirrors on each side and hook up a simple ground anywhere
