Did you paint the inside of the rings when you smoked them or the outside?

Light smoke from the inside. Then masked off and painted with black from the outside for the angry look.

Trying to do this myself right now, Jesus Christ is this a pain in the ass!!!! I've baked them 4 times at 290 for 15 min each, leaving the oven on the entire time. They ARE NOT coming apart. My fingertips and nails are bleeding, but the lenses are still completely intact. One more bake and if then don't come off then I'll saying "screw it" and will just have to settle for chrome.

And I thought peeling the sealant out was going to be the issue. (Insert sad face)

I've also read some people did 300 for 10 minutes. Could your oven temp be off or have a gauge to check it?

Good idea. I have a towel placed on the oven rack so I don't melt them. Right now they are at 290 for 15. Going to see what happens. If it doesn't work I'll try your suggestion. Perhaps the additional 10 degrees will make a difference. This is unreal!

they are a BITCH! just stay with it, mine started to come apart on bake 3 at 280 (15min each) got it about half way before I put them back in for 2 min more and was able to get it the rest of the way.

not looking forward to pulling my passenger side back apart because the high beam(actuator) isn't working...

I've read that second time is much easier than pulling apart OEM sealant. Still a pain to do all that work though.

Damn you. Just let me have 10% of your talent so I can do my own REGULAR retro's since i would just mess them up. But as you know I like different and would take anything that comes outta your shop.

I just held the bezel up to see how it would fit. Surprisingly, the profile of the MDX jewels looks like they can squeeze in there.(RLX's are a diff story). But they are a bit too long, so 1 inside jewel would have to be eliminated. I haven't checked clearance in the back of the bucket yet.

What did you use to hold in place the amber lens? And how were you able to give them that final look?

2 part epoxy along the entire inner edge. Bonds the new amber "diffuser" to the factory turn signal "fins". Then the mesh is just a vinyl sticker applied to the inside. Been on there a while and still going strong.
