Link is behaving strangely for me so I'll need to read it later.

This sort of thing is why I keep an old windows laptop around.

Just installed my remote start - Everything appears to be working and I ended up soldering all the wires which went rather easy.

I do have 2 questions that I noticed from my initial test (tomorrow I will do more).

If I start the car with the remote then I shut it off with the remote, I noticed that I cannot unlock the doors like I normally would by walking up to door and grabbing the handle. I have to unlock the doors with the remote control. If the truck is never started with the remote, everything works like it's supposed to and I can lock and unlock the door via the handle. Did I wire up something wrong or is this the way it's supposed to operate? If I start the truck with the remote I can unlock the door via the handle if the truck is running and then of course the truck shuts off.

The other question, in relation to the above, if I start the car with the remote then I shut it off with the remote I noticed the parking lights stay on - how long do they stay on before shutting off, do they ever shut off on their own (yes I cut the auto light wire and soldered both wires coming from the dball2 to the white oem wire)? They do shut off if I open the door.

    Thanks for the help.

I installed mine today. I did it using military splices without soldering and then taping real tight with electrical tape. It was a bitch to strip the sections of wire to tap into and it took a fair amount of time because I was really careful not to cut any strands of the wire. It took me about 3 hours to complete the install but again, I was very careful and took my time. However, it paid off because it worked on the first try!!

With that being said, I'm a 33 year old female with no experience in wiring or doing any kind of auto installs. If I can do it, you can to. Just take your time and get things right the first time.

It took me 2 hours being careful and soldering so 3 hours is not bad at all.

Maybe i missed the thread but my 2nd gen had factory remote start,
Clicking the lock button 3 times would start the truck, I had to walk
to the truck and open my driver door with my key and before anything
else had to put my key in the ignition. Anything else would shut the engine
    off.

Just picked up a 3rd Gen and read this thread, Please correct me If im mistaken.
The Voodoo kit shuts the car off when you open the door? Is there a sequence
to leave the truck running so i can get in and drive off opposed to getting in
and having to restart the truck??

*ALL* remote starts for the 3rd gen Tacomas will shut off when you open the door. Doesn't matter if it's KB VooDoo's kit (using the DEI DBALL2), a roll your own using that component, or a Fortin remote start.

That's due to Toyota, not the remote start makers who I bet would love to crack the problem. None have yet done so and there's no expectation of anyone doing so in the foreseeable future.

I think the only sequence that'll achieve is this is as follows:

Step #1: Sell the 3rd gen
Step #2: Buy a 2nd gen or buy one of the GM twins.

So if you prefer to keep the 3rd gen (my recommendation), you can't get "perfect" and have to settle for "good".

Remote start vs no remote start? Either way you're getting into the truck and pressing the Start button. You get to choose whether you climb into a *cold* truck or a *warm* truck.

Its understandable since we have the PTT, Im sure down the road someone will figure it out, till then restart it is!!
I disagree, you can get perfect, either you gotta pay or you gotta wait, but it can be done, even if you can roll down
your windows with the remote and pretend the Taco is the General Lee =)

If we wish to get particular, I was writing in context of a third gen Taco in the current/expected future. :D

Personally I wouldn't switch to a truck that was a worse fit for my needs just to not press the Start button.

Oh that's right, the GM twins don't have push to start and the convenience of a smart key... :)

Just talked to my wiring guy I've been using for 18 years, he's a guru of all gurus with this kinda sh#t. He has a module in hand and can program it to my stock remote PTT and did say he HAS successfully found a way around the "door open ignition kill" on 3rd gen Tacos .

He said I'll need to carry a second remote that just starts the truck and has intervals of auto shut off that I can choose from .

He's gonna install it for me Thursday night I'll report back any findings.

Ps - I opted for using just my stock remote with the need to restart ;)

I don't have a 3rd gen so couldn't check for myself on this, but most remote starts have aux outputs that can be configured in many different ways. You could likely configure it to send a ground signal for the 20 min duration that the truck is started to trip a relay. Relay wired up to the driver door switch so that while tripped the door open signal is not passed onto the ECU.

Should result in being able to open the door without the truck knowing that the door was opened and then the truck would not shut off.

Again though I don't have a 3rd gen so I could easily be overlooking something.

My guy actually is saying the same , however he doesn't know how it will effect my day to day door trigger, dome light and door open warning on the dash - seems plausible to me same as how you mentioned - looking forward in trying it on Thursday , I gotta find a way and your idea is the first option this far .

Ah cool, yeah it would seem to be the most logical way. Usually a door switch is very basic (allows ground or +12v when closed then removes it when door is open or vice versa). A SPDT relay could very easily override that and trick the ECU into believing the door is shut at all times while triggered and then back to standard operation when not triggered.

Hope it works out for you!

The ecu didn't look for the key more than once. So their is no way to get the ecu to recognize the take over. You may get past the door but once you hit the brake the truck will die. If you get past that once the remote start is out of time the truck will die.

No way around the 2 start procedure
