maybe people with blocks just steamroll over everything because they have a lift causing the springs to wear out

What leverage? I see zero reason blocks would put any extra downward force on the springs. I do see how they can put more lateral bending force on the springs due to extra leverage and subsequently increase the chance of axle hop.

I don't see why increased ride height would incite a driver to steamroll over everything. lol

I simply haven’t experienced this. My Deaver AAL has settled 1/4” in a year and 27,000 miles of use. Further, if I did lose an unacceptable amount of the initial 1.5” lift, it couldn’t be simpler or cheaper to replace them.

I think the issue is if your leaf pack is already in really poor shape. Sticking a nice fresh U shaped AAL in a pack that is currently arched in the opposite direction isn't the best solution. But yes, an AAL added to keep the pack from getting into that situation should work!

Most people don't know how to drive a leaf spring vehicle; no lift required.
For example, most folks brake going over a bump. Under 'brake wrap' only half the spring is carrying the weight of the vehicle, making the bump twice as severe if they had let it run free.
Same thing applies for accelerating over bumps.

I believe the flat look is a normal characteristic of the truck and I wouldn’t loose any sleep over it. Excessive bottoming out without a load may not be.
    First, U-bolts tight to 52lbs?
Second I would make sure the part number on the aftermarket shocks matches the vehicle.
Third, I would inspect the frame, bounce the rear bumper to check for any abnormalities, loose rivets, fasteners etc.
Fourth, a spring leaf(s) may have a hair line crack not easily visible without disassembly from vehicle, I would therefore take them to a re-build shop if any are near you, or just order a new set after exhausting/checking all other possible culprits.

Good luck and let us know what you find

Those RoadMasters work well for towing and DD but when taken off road they'll produce a terrible clapping noise when the vehicle starts to go down into a compression (aka, moguls). When the rear of the truck gets unweighted those springs will snap back pretty fast - I ran them on my Chevy Colorado for years but took them off when I would head off-road since they were so loud and seemed kinda dangerous.

I haven’t noticed any problems like that when I have off-roaded. We’re you going fast when you noticed this?

It seemed like it happened anytime I was over 10 or so mph. Mainly it was when the truck hit the backside of moguls and started descending. It could also be that I used the thicker spacer when setting them up since I needed a lot of initial strength for my old rig.

Regardless, this thread is really interesting to me since the initial sag on the springs is way more pronounced than on my Colorado. It's good to know that Tacos are just kinda built that way.

It's widely known (& accepted) that Toyota uses wet noodles for leaf springs. You can add an AAL, new spring pack or a spring assist, as mentioned early in the thread. If you're keeping the truck long term, I'd go for a new spring pack with more carrying capability than the OEM noodles.

Widely believed by a vocal minority perhaps.
