Guess it stems back to me being lazy...Just figure since most everything new, now a days, is coming standard with them, even the Tundra, it would be nice to have as well on the light dutys. I just haven't taken the time to learn drum. I sell enough drum/shoe parts to know how it works and whats going on, but just kind of alway saw it as a hassle. I guess there are perks to each system.

I'm guessing since people are willing to pay more for a taco the 3rd gen will cost $35k
45k for upgraded shocks and decals + plus a conjugal visit with sandusky

Let your foot out of it.

Speed kills fuel economy. I get 22 on the highway through NM and TX with their 80mph limits.
See my Fuelly link in my sig for what I get in California.

And there are V6 owners on this forum getting 20+
Just as there are 2.7 owners bitching about 18 or less.

Oversized tires, offroad lights, plus driving habits can easily make a 5+mpg difference.

I average 22 MPG mixed driving and between 17 and 18 MPG on the highway (interstate driving at 70 - 75 MPH). So as far as the V6 guys go, I'm going pretty well but my old Silverado with the 5.3L V8 wasn't that far off from my 4.0L V6. That's the stem of my irritation, the Chevy was an extended cab 4x4 V8, much heavier, overall larger, towed and hauled better and the Tacoma is smaller and really doesn't do that much better in the MPG department. Yes, I realize there are reasons to own a Tacoma over my old Chevy but strictly looking at it from a MPG perspective, it doesn't make sense.

Google searching "2014 toyota tacoma" gives a good suggestion of whats to come. An updated 2.7L that produces more hp, more torque and more MPG's with a six speed auto tranny or a downsized 6cyl engine.

Theres a whole lot of goodness yet to come as manufacturers are learning to share technology and compensate patents. Ford and toyota are prime examples of this. Its not like the 70's where Tom Ogle came out with a 200mpg vapor carb and GM had a hissy fit because it infringed on 9 of their patents.

Im not saying toyota will use an eco-boost engine, but there is alot of sharing going on between the two as of late.

And 5 years ago you could have googled "2010 toyota tacoma" and seen exactly the same speculation... that is all it is.
Corporations are VERY tight with their information and if it were to leak into the net, heads would be rolling.
NOTHING that you google on the net about future vehicles is reliable information until the spy shots of the test mules start showing up.

    #1, the 200mpg carb is a myth.
It never existed except in the mind of someone who decided to start a rumor.
It was as real as the videos on Youtube that show the big wheeled "engine" running on water in perpetual motion.
If a 200mpg carb were possible, automakers would be running it today instead of 20mpg fuel injection.

Now on Toyota and Ford... again, that's more bullshit.
Toyota has and always has had a tight relationship with GM.
Ford has been tied with Mazda, and Mazda produces many Ford vehicles... the Escort/Tracer was a 323/GLC, the Courier was a Mazda, the Ranger was a Mazda, etc....

Toyota has been sharing it's hybrid technology with several manufacturers, but Ford's hybrid technology was developed in-house, and we are not going to see an "ecoboost" technology engine from Toyota... at least not one derived from Ford R&D.

Agreed for the most part (i think). The vapor carb is not feesable especially with todays vapor retardand enhancement. Bullshit or not GM did raise issue with the patent.

I never said ecoboost would come from toyota, in fact i suggested the opposite.

I can add a dozen other replicas off hand as well to your list like geo, isuzu etc. But thats not my point. Its not about who a manufacturer is in bed with at all its too damn competative for that. The mazda B series vs Ranger or escape vs tribute days are yesterdays news.

In the manufacturing world patents are abundant, that includes specific objectives to manufacturing processes. It gets down to milling, drilling, casting and fusion practices on the mechanical side and the rest is way over my head. Patents are, long, elaborate and competative. Yes everything ford and yota does is super secreat until its revealed. Then its open season for discovery because pending claims are already documented. At the end of the day manufactures do share technology. But they do come to agreeable compensation amongst themselves. Its very much a global economy more so than we recognize. If a 2014 tacoma would have direct injection, whose patent would it be invading, how would it be invading and who would be compensated for its use? In this case would their not be information and technology sharing?

Its not yester-year. Manufactures compete with each other and complete each other at a price. Its not just in the automotive industry. Its in the computer you are currently using now.

Geo was a unique brand... it never really existed as an auto maker, only on paper under GM.
My wife had a '91 Geo Storm... the DMV title and registration said "CHEV"

Geo was a Chevrolet, but not made by Chevrolet. In 1998, GM eliminated the Geo badge and the remaining models were rebranded Chevrolet, with with new name tags as they were facelifted.

Your right, off the top of my head i was thinking Geo tracker by GM and Suzuki sumuri by Cami/GMC although the tracker was a joint venture by both, or the tracker was the joint venture.

Didnt intend to be rash, always appreciate your posts, your a bit of a realist which is always good.

Ya, the Tracker was CAMI-built, same model as the Sidekick (Same for the Metro/Swift) It was basically the 2nd Gen Samurai (I almost bought one back in '96 but got a '94 Toyota 5-lug instead). By the time GM got the model it was already well on it's way to being a Rav4/CRV and no longer truly off-road worthy... a shame because the 1st Gen Samurai was a Jeep killer.
The rest of the Geo line was 100% Toyota (Prizm/Corolla) or Isuzu (Storm/Impulse, Spectrum/I-Mark)

Some were limited co-production. GM and Toyota have always had a tight relationship and my '94 pickup had a GM-badged radiator. Of course, GM's relationship with Isuzu goes back to the 70s as well with the "LUV" and the production sharing on the S-10 line that replaced the LUV.

Total chaos UCAs, 265/75-16s, BAK rollback tonneau, custom lights and rack.
All the dreaming and wishing is great, but in 5 pages of requests we missed one that should have been obvious! Of course, this should also be obvious to Toyota, but if it's not I'll go ahead and say it. FIX THE SQUEAKY CLUTCH!

Don't ask for that with too much force or they'll just delete the manual trans option.
