Possible add this module to increase number of video input (left, right, up, down and smartphone mirroring..) and automate video port switching upon +12v signal activated. See detail in this manual.

Off Topic: Build HomeLink (Garage Opener) if you needed one.

BOM (Bill of materials)

1. Your garage remote control.
2. One Momentary N.O. Switch or this Switch or your choice (as long as N.O Momentary switch)
3. 4ft ~ 5ft shielded small solid wire

For Average User: (Garage remote control will works only when the accessories power is on such as cigarette socket power).

1. Ensure to paired your garage opener with your garage first.
2. Pop out the plastic cover, located the switch, battery contact (see figure 1)
3. Connect Momentary switch and +12v accessories as figure 2.

For Advance User: (Garage remote control will works at anytime, Extend garage remote control range).

1. Ensure to paired your garage remote control with your garage first.
2. Pop out the plastic cover, located the switch, battery contact, Antenna trace (normally the Antenna trace is outer line and larger) (see figure 1)
3. Connect Momentary switch, shorted two points as in red line (push switch), small solid wire (green color line) and +12v battery as figure 3.
4. Ensure small solid wire laying to the driver/passenger side A pillar cover to get better range (or anywhere you wanted). You may have to adjust location of this wire here and there to get better range.

Now enjoy your work. Ensure snap back the plastic housing, tie wrap somewhere. You are no longer needed to carry garage remote control separately, worry remote battery is out, lost it ...etc. Also the Horn Switch is the last thing any Unauthorized Person will touch.

FYI. I did these mod. since Y2k on three diff. vehicles, never have any issue. Also when I sold the old car, just removed the mod. and connected into the new truck.

 

Here is the schematic for:

1. Anytime Rear Camera (If you done with Front/Rear Mod. then ignore this info.) [pin2].
2. A/V input into HU (meaning Smartphone mirroring mod.) [pin 11, 15 and pin 12, 25 and 26, 27, 28 and 13, 14].
3. Navigation Lockout Bypass (meaning you can enter address in navigation system while the truck is in motion) [pin 17].

So if I only want to add a front camera that I see on-screen when pushing a switch, what is the process? Don't need the "backup camera anytime" part.

I just want to be able to use a front camera while parallel parking really.

 

Per your option, no mechanical switch needed, only touch option on HU then do :

1. A/V input into HU (meaning Smartphone mirroring mod.) [pin 11, 15 and pin 12, 25 and 26, 27, 28 and 13, 14].

All you have to do is do some connection as above then connect your Front Camera output to pin 13 , 14 of 28 pin cable harness. Press A/V source on HU then you will see Front Video Camera

 

Do you need the wifi mirror box in this situation? Could you skip the audio connections (pins 26, 27, 28)?

 

If you only needed per @Metonymy , then there is no reason to buy Wifi Mirror Box.
Since video is the only required for Front Camera input then you can skip audio connection in pin 26, 27 and 28.

IMHO, since the HU is disassembled then you may mod pin 26, 27 and 28 and leave it there for future connection (Wifi Mirro Box, ...etc.).

 

My Liftmaster remote operates on 3v, same as most others. If I connect it to 12v isn't that going to cause serious problems?

 

Great job. I want to add a front mounted camera to my '13. Where can you find the wiring diagrams? My factory reverse camera is going into my rearview mirror, so my HU should have pins open for this.

I plan on adding the front camera this weekend, however I am also going to be swapping out my head unit with my pioneer Appradio. Question I have is what pins are the camera power +/- ? I have a step-down converter already to bring it down to the 6 volts the factory camera runs at, however need to determine what pins power it so I can tap in. I plan on having my front camera on a separate power source so that will not interfere with this

Are you looking for power from your Tacoma's fusebox or from your Pioneer ?

Most of the Camera can operates from 5v to 13v dc. You may not needed step-down converter. Do verify with Camera sepec.

 

I am actually looking for what pins on the 28 pin connector power the factory reverse camera to wire that up. Your details show the wires for the signal which is awesome, however I still need to power the factory reverse camera which is 6 volts. When I get the front camera installed that is easy, just don't feel like spending the $97 US price for the Metra harness for the reverse camera when all I need is to tap into the wire on the factory harness.

 

Rear Camera power is on 24 pin connector. Do verify with meter.

 

Oh perfect! Thank you! I know that harness has the 4 wires on the 1 side, and the two on the other side of the harness. You wouldn't happen to know what pins are the +/- would you? I tested with my meter on the weekend and got 3 volts on 2 of them, and I think less than 1 volt on the other 2 wires.

Thank you for this information! This both saves me time and money! My aftermarket deck actually has dual video inputs, so I can have split screen camera ability when needed. I may end up wiring in a 3 way switch so that I can have either front, rear, or both front and rear split screen.
