And, is it possible to make a simple version, where you can view the front camera on the console display when the switch is toggled. And goes back to the normal console display when the switch is toggled back? No phone mirroring and RCA cables and all that stuff.

I am running out soon.
This cable triggers head unit to become display unit. If you want Front Camera only then disregard video switch, Mirroring device, media player...
BTW: I am in Mira Mesa...

 

is there a way to activate the front camera with a push of a button instead of the rearview camera

 

There are several ways. 24 pin or 28 pins cable harness... fortunately 28 pins cable available for us to do so. You can select in audio (touch screen) sources > A/V then you will see Front Camera view..... Press Anytime Rear Camera button then rear view pop up.., unpress anytime rear camera switch again then you have front camera view again.
(Using HAI cable harness).

 

I think he means the front camera pop up after pushing a button, instead of pushing the button THEN going through Souce > A/V

Currently I am out of assy. cable. However I have enough material for 3 more cables and plan to build this week end. If you go ahead and pay then I will ship out Monday.
After this batch, I need to search for a new supplier since they want to increase the price and I don't want to pass the buck.

So does that mean Yes, or you have to press the Source and then choose A/V to see the front camera after switching ON ? This is what I was trying to ask earlier as well. Still confused.
