Are there any tricks for determining which of the black wires has 12v before I hook everything up? I just wanted to be able to solder the switch wire harness while it's all out of the truck.

Use light bulb is the easiest way if you don't have multi-meter. Use a wire for ground then touch one black wire at a time to positive contact of the light bulb.

Keep in mind that as long as you not turn on the truck or head unit then there is no 12 vdc in black wire.

I have a multimeter, sounds like the easiest way is to plug it in and test it. I was hoping the black wire that will have 12v would have continuity with pin x, or something like that.

I got the cable in and working tonight. Just freaking excellent! So much less frustration using the HU!

I'm looking forward to the camera options one of these days.

    Thanks for making this, Frank!

Nothing amazing going on here yet.

It was really nice to have full access for today's work commute. Much less thinking and distraction if I needed to use the apps.

Here are the pics as I have the cable now.

    The switch:

I need to route that to a better spot.

    Camera wires stowed:

    IMG_20171116_174404.jpg

They are away from the heater outlet and I put a rubber cap on that screw so that the wires won't chafe.

I will get more once I get the camera and switch.

    Hahaha!

    I'm a slighty-dyslexic, slighty-OCD, full-on lefty. If I don't keep things organized, I'm screwed!

    My pleasure!

Frank did a stellar job with the cable.

Some observations after driving with the cable installed.
    • With the override switch flipped, the GPS Nav screen and the Compass in the gauge cluster no longer update.
    • With the rear camera turned on, the Compass in the gauge cluster no longer updates.
    • It takes 20 seconds or so for the GPS to figure out where you are and update after you turn off the camera or turn the override switch off.
These are minor inconveniences for the functionality added by this mod. My next step is to install the front facing camera.

    My switch locations:

Great spot for the main switch! Thanks. That is ways easier to get to than the area above the charging mat.

On your first comment, I am still getting familiar with that, but I found that after flicking the override switch, it took about 10min for the navi to start working normally. Leaving the switch in the override position, the navi worked right away on following start ups. Like I said, I'm still getting familiar there.

Also, just for clarity, I found that I could not modify the settings on the last screen in the gauge cluster while moving. Not a big deal, I just assumed the override would work there also.

Interesting, I guess I never gave it enough time to find itself while switched to override. I'll try leaving it switched longer on the ride home. Thanks!

Yeah. Going in, I sort of thought that I'd need to flip the switch for every startup, but life is great just leaving it in override full time. I've got my motorcycle today, but I will go out for a drive when I get home to confirm.

Confirmed. Override left on overnight. I had a moving map within 30sec of rolling out of the garage.

Now, I'm going to install the switch where you have it!
