I put a new belt and top idler pulley on this morning, hopefully that fixes my noise.

I recommend you don’t cut the old belt. Keep it under your seat so if you ever have a roadside belt failure (however unlikely), you’ll have one on hand to get you home.

the hole to hold the tensioner was money for me doing this job. just enough to put the new belt on and make sure everything is aligned

How many folks have ever had roadside belt failure in recent times? Belt must be really, really, really bad and overdue for a failure. I never have had this happen to any car I’ve owned.

I did mine from the top in the garage and hated life. Next time, doing it from underneath. Way more accessible for this.

It's not that bad from the top! I did my second one from the top again just a few weeks back. Now, if I didn't have a step stool, yes it would be hard lol.

I had a step stool and did not enjoy it. A bottom attack just seems to make sense here.

Regardless, serp belts are way better than three or four V belts from the old days.

Just did this a week ago using this thread as guidance. Took less than 20 min. Replaced belt and idler pulley. Super helpful thread! Did not use the key method as I found it hard to access since I’m a short person at 5’2”, ha! But I got it done!

I did this Saturday. Almost 65k miles, but 9 year old truck. The old belt still looked and performed fine, but I figured I might as well since I've done all the other maintenance.

I used the oem belt. Dayco brand I think? Made in USA.

    90916-A2037

Anyway, slight noticeable improvement. New belt seems to fit a pinch tighter, so maybe the old one stretched a few mm after 9 years.

Looking online I see the Continental version (4070834) is on sale for $14.99. Made in China. Might be worth ordering to have a spare. Maybe I'll just keep the old one under the rear seat for spare. :notsure:

Stock with a camper shell for now.
I probably should look into purchasing an oem one replacing mine that has 85k miles on it and using it as a spare.

Completed it today and took about 30min. The 5mm Allen in the service hole worked like a charm. Used the Continental belt from AutoZone and was a perfect fit. Great write up! Thx
