If I acquire a set of 3rd Gen TRD OR bilsteins and they didnt come with coils, which would I need to purchase to put on them?

Anyone have a pair to sell off their OEM struts?

Do you NEED them? No, you can use the coils off your current ones as long as they are the OEM struts. If you are putting the 3rd gen struts on your 2nd gen then you will not gain any lift height. If you have 3rd gen OR coils on a 2nd gen then you will gain about 3/4" of lift.

Thanks for the feedback, I didnt realize that. Even if my 2nd gen OEM arent bilsteins they will swap over? What about the OEMs having 150k on them....are they "worn out"?

They will swap over with no issues. I'm guessing you have either an SR5 or Sport which really doesn't make a big difference in spring rate. 3rd gen coils have a 700lb rating where as the 2nd gens have about 550-600lb rating. This sounds like it would ride terrible, but the strut is tuned for it and the ride is very nice! You will notice a difference in ride with either spring you go with, for the better. The OR struts are digressively valved (ie the faster the piston moves, the softer it is dampened). If you find any local deals on 3rd take off's that would be great because they bolt right up as a whole assembly.

Since you have 150k you may have some sag in those springs, but it won't effect much other than ride height.

Check out this thread I put together a while back. Lots of good info in there.

I actually have a base model truck, which is why I wasnt sure if anything would swap over. Your original thread is what set me off in this direction. I got a 3rd gen set off a 2020 TRD OR w/ 17k for $50 but it didnt include the coils. I am pretty well versed in mountain bike suspension, but not so much vehicle suspension. Right now I'd say my truck is too soft based on brake dive/corner dive in the front end and the rear end feels a bit harsh.

Ahhh, a base. It should still work, though I haven't seen anyone do it. There was a couple of base 2.7L 4wd's that did the swap and it worked out good. But if its a base 2wd I'm not 100% sure. I know the XRunner struts are far different though, mainly in travel lenght.
