hey guys so i just put a deposit on a 2018 trd pro and its being made aug 11 and will be here early sept. i told the salesman to check the ATF and not remove any wrappings. i was curious tho. ive seen all these TSBs and ecu updates about the 3rd gens, if my truck is being made after they have figured all this out am i still going to have to do it or are they fixed? if so can u give me a list or link to all the major TSBs that i should get done before taking it home and how exactly i go about getting them done. thanks in advanced

It's entirely possible you'll still need the trannie/shifting TSB.

I think it's the one containing the number 62 (and not 58). But I'm still trying to figure this all out myself.

If they have already issued the TSB, I would be very surprised if those changes have not already been applied to production.

TSB's arent recalls, nor does every tacoma need it. Why fix something that isn't broken.

They can't perform every TSB because the internet told you so. They aren't iphone updates.

Also you're buying a Tacoma, not a limited edition ferrari, why leave the wrappings? How can they inspect for damage under the wrapping?

Not the case, apparently. Just tonight I came across a couple posts where people said build dates on their truck were after the date of the TSB release and the trucks didn't have the update.

It's possible they're (Toyota) sticking with the original tunes and only applying the tsb's when requested/needed. I use the word "needed" loosely. I think a lot of people simply won't notice the things that a lot of us TW guys notice. Hard to imagine. But to be honest, if my mom drove my truck, she'd not notice a thing. True story.

I would drive it first before worrying about the latest TSB. I have no complaints with mine yet.

OP, I will make this VERY easy - get in and drive the truck. You've been placebo'd and will already think you truck has issues. 27k mi and my truck has been perfect and love driving it everyday.

I noticed the problem as soon as I test drove it and my wife noticed it being a passenger the first time she rode in it. No, it’s not that bad but it’s still a problem no matter how you look at it. Needed? Not really. Should be corrected? Absolutely.

Tacoma or Ferrari, doesn’t matter. If there’s a problem, it should be corrected no matter the model or brand. With that said ...

iPhone updates? Seriously? You do know that when an update is released, some phones (not all) can and will experience a possible glitch such as bad battery life or random reboots. When they release an update to fix the update, that means they found a culprit that “could” effect the software. They do that for a reason. Our trucks are largely software based and glitches could arise in some models more than others. Lots of factors involved. But think of this ... if it weren’t a problem, they wouldn’t release a TSB to “fix” the problem.

You're right, it'd be a recall. They'd want everyone to come in. Not make a just in case someone complains fix.

Well, this problem isn’t a safety issue. It’s more of an annoyance issue. So it’s your call if you want and or need it fixed. If it were a safety issue in any way, then it would be a recall. But the fact remains that it’s an issue/problem that they seem to have corrected if you ... ahem ... complain about it.

awesome. thanks for the help guys. for now im just gonna start with driving it because from what im seeing/hearing on here is that its hit or miss about people having to do these TSBs. so ill see if mine needs it or not. oh and another thing. would my entune software be updated to the most recent? or would i have to do that too. and the reason i asked to leave the wrapping on is so that i can leave it on as long as i want to preserve the interior. i will take it off as i please after inspecting it at the dealership. only reason im doing this is because my brother details cars and he told me to do it.

those guys saying get in and drive are obviously right. but you also can get a list of applicable TSB's, recalls, etc through your VIN. you won't need to figure it out yourself. well, hopefully anyway after being around here a while where half of us are fixing our own damn problems it seems.

On delivery, i wouldn’t leave that dealership without the new TSB.... the factory tune seems way worse - you’re buying a 45k truck, get the most recent software that engineers worked heavily on for your vehicle. The factory tune is awful, everyone who knows anything about cars knows it and can feel it. Some trucks drive worse, but ALL of them have it. Get the updated TSB before you leave the dealership, it would be silly not to...

Make sure they inspected fluid level in your diff, transfer case, trans, etc.
Mine came with very low transfer case fluid, failed.

    I got stuff on order...
I don't know about new Tacomas, but I bought a '17 last month with 29k on the clock and noticed the "odd" throttle response almost immediately. Thought it was just me until I spent a little time on this kickass forum. lol

I had the TSB 0062-18 performed a few days ago, just printed it out and showed it to them, said I was experiencing the stumbles. They did it, no questions asked and the difference was noticeable before I even got out of the parking lot. It still seems to hunt for gears sometimes in the midrange, but the take off and roll on throttle is much, much better.

I think that if I was having a new one built just for me I'd probably just check the fluids and then drive it first. Just me. No reason you can't get that done anytime you want if it needs it.
