No...this is an add on. it is receives signal from the door unlock pulse (unlock pulse from "pop and lock" style tailgate lock) to the tr-7 module programed to accept 3x pulse (in this case) which then triggers a relay for ~2 seconds to activate the solenoid.

@caribe makaira is a smart man.

I'm with @caribe makaira, go for the Parking sensor, not sure if the light has enough load support.

Instead of 3x unlock pulses, you could:

    1) Find where the signal pulses for the Panic is received. Since you have to hold it down for a certain amount of time to panic, pulses don't do anything and could benefit the guys that don't remember and hit unlock a thousand times to ensure they or someone else is coming to an unlocked vehicle. This might be impossible because that signal might be going directly to a receiver antenna that then triggers the panic output relay.

or (I like this one better)

    2) Use Feature #12 (or bonus feature #17) depending on which TR-7 (or TR7 newer) you have, and make it so that you have to hold down Unlock for x amount of time, would be hard to accidentally do that:

Great mod... but reminds me of when i gave my keys to my colleague and she pressed lock more than 3 times and started the truck... now imagine being parked against a wall and unlocked 3 times

I guess a turn off switch also...

I shouldnt push the unlock 3x by mistake, but maybe my wife or a Toyota Service person??? Thats a valid point!

Being able to tap into the parking sensors would be awesome as an interlock. However I think it could be pretty tricky, especially while trying to make it as PNP as possible. However I am looking into it to see if it is feasible.

Here is the entire oem circuit. The system runs off of ACC power, so we would have to temporarily jump power out to the system. Then see if we can interlock the tail gate unlock off of the oem system. @caribe makaira any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is that big of an issue however. Idk what psycopath hits the unlock 3-4 times to unlock it, but in all reality I suppose it is a possiblity that would be nice to account for if possible.

What I would want to test is if you can jump BATT power to the SWITCH on the Normally open side. (So it doesnt matter if you have the button in or not). Then perhaps tapping into the buzzer assembly to monitor if it is beeping or not and interlock out the tailgate signal.

You guys are awesome (wish you were the Toyota engineers vs those actually employed). That said, I’m waiting for one of you geniuses to incorporate smartdevice NFC and voice recognition (hey Siri & ok Google) so I can ditch the fob altogether. Walk up to my truck, raise my watch and say “hey Siri, start my truck and open the tailgate”... I’ll would like to load the bed, then say “hey Siri, close the tailgate, open the driver door, and restart the truck” (in case Toyota still has that stupid auto shutoff).

Just one more step to full vehicle automation and autonomous driving...

And a oscillating left right left red led bar in the hood scoop to complete this vehicle.

I think you’re looking for this car Michael...

I say keep it simple. Over thinking it complicates it. Tying into the parking sensor circuit doesn't look feasible since it would require hot circuit. (unless you add a dedicated battery to that system. Way over budget)

Yeah the clearance gets super complicated.

I was going to use a 4 relay module (1 relay for power to the actuator, 1 for Park interlock, I decided to do away with the ACC interlock because I want to incorporate a dash mounted button which you should be able to press while the truck is running or in ACC just not while in anything other than park, 1 relay for clearance signal, 1 for power to boot up the sonar oem assembly outside of ACC. Below is Example simulation circuit.

2 problems I see though is

    A) Not even sure you can boot up the oem sonar by just jumping over BATT power. Would need to test but I doubt its easy.
    B) There would probably need to be some sort of delay to allow the oem sonar to start up. If instantaneous I think it wouldnt work.
    C) Forgot to consider this one but you would need to trick the truck into thinking its in reverse.

Because of those reasons, I think I am going to put the Clearance checker on the backburner to keep things simple as Caribe mentioned.

@KTJO 4x4 is working on a mount for the extra actuator that I should get to test out soon. I am probably going to get a two channel relay module to do the work and just design/3d print up an enclosure for it. Planning on ripping the TR7 board out of the enclosure and incorporating it into one box. 1 relay for actuator power and one for the park interlock. I would like to get the dash button harness incorporated as well.

Here's the dash mounted button I will personally be using. Not sure if I will include it in the kit, as people may want to use their own options. This is a custom one on CH4x4.

I'm definitely looking forward to the release of this, finally getting good weather here, time to take care of a few pending mods. I do have one question for @DSIM - for the folks that have the 12 volt Solutions remote start that works off of the 3x lock button - the remote start shuts the truck off, when a door is opened. I'm just assuming that if the truck is started remotely and you then use your 3x unlock to drop the tailgate, that it too should shut the truck off? I'm an absolute novice for almost anything electronics, so I was just wondering. This would not be an issue for me either way, just wondered if the tailgate had a sensor to interrupt the truck like the doors do. Thanks again for making cool stuff for us. Bill in MA
