The 06 Limited looks better than my 05 SR5 as far as the bed goes. The fenders are different. Plus the color matched mirrors. I hate my chrome ones.

That's my truck. This is the Limited. I like the fenders better.

Aren't these the HP numbers between the first generation 4.7 I-Force V8(245) and the '05 model year VVTi 4.7 I-Force V8(282)?

yea ive got a buddy with an 01 i think. Hes done all kinds of crap to it like exhaust, cold air, throttle body spacer, and just little stuff. He will pull it down to D1 and just hold it to the floor to listen to it. It holds up to him with a spacer lift so i figure they're just as good as tacomas.

He also supposedly got 23 mpg on the way to the beach goin about 60mph... idk if ill believe it but it would be cool if thats possible.

No, that 245 came off of the 05 Toyota spec sheet for the 4.0. Click the link in that post.

05's were listed at 245, 06's and up dropped to 236. Something about HP reporting changed per SAE. Same engine, same power, 2 different measuring sticks.

I've been tracking the mpgs on my taco over the last couple years. Winters I ave around the mid 18s and the rest of the year I'm up to the high 19's hitting 20-21 when I do a lot of highway driving. For my daily commutes to work, its 50/50 city/highway. I've been very impressed as my old Exploders would ave 16s with a similar setup - a/t and 4x4.

My advice, buy what you feel like you want. Opinions are great, but in the long run, you have to be happy with your decision so go with your gut.

My parents have an 02 sequoia with the 4.7 and it averages 15 mpg according the overhead console. That's probably 90-95% city and with both the o2 sensors out. I'm sure the tundra would get a little better than that. The 4.7 is a good engine imo.

    This.

I know a few people with 1st gen Tundras all love them. Most with 4.7 I do know one guy that has one with the 4.0 and a manual tranny. That guy actually had to have his frame replaced under the whole frame rust thing, I wasn't aware that effected Tundras as well. So something to watch out for. Although his truck was one of the first model years for the Tundra.

Honestly look through every detail, look at insurance rates as well as price, the actual price to own, any mods you plan on doing and maintanence costs are some big things to look at. But I like the Taco's over the first gen Tundra but think the 2nd gen Tundra looks the best!

    I owned both a 2004 & 2006 Tundras.
    Each were 4x4, V8 4.7 autos & TRD.
The 04 was the 1st full four door tundra.
The 06 was an access cab.
Both were used as daily drivers & for towing.
I drove each to around 30k.
Keeping good records the mpgs of both trucks matched my 4.0L 4x4 DC Tacoma. The engine & trans were extremely smooth. Many of the same pluses Ben has pointed out. I really like the cold weather packaged offered being in the NE. The styling was somewhat neutral meh like. Dated is probably a word I would use...
I sold the crew cab because it was too big for my needs. The AC, I wish I kept but nothing I can do about it now.

I think I've used the heated mirrors twice since I've owned it. And I must agree with the styling comment, at least interior wise. It honestly reminds my of my old 98 taco.

^Bite me. I'd kill a man for heated mirrors.
