New motor is out as they are non existent where I live and if I was lucky to find one it would have been living in the same environment as this one did.

@Bishop84 can I have clarification on your above comment about pipe failing ?

You have only heard about the pipe failing, how does it fail ?

So there is no white smoke from exhaust, and no smell of Coolant or sign of it in oil. It goes down over a period of time and there are no signs of it in the driveway.

I do smell the sweet smell of antifreeze every now and then

The pipe could corrode and leak from the valley. I've only heard of it, I live in Calgary, land of wind and sunshine.

    Stock for now.. maybe

I can see where you are coming from as the new motor being out of the question. My brother lives in Gander and its amazing how fast things get rust3d and goes to shot. That was the first thing I asked 'how and why is everyone driving a new car'. Yhe answer was because another of people trade in before they rust out to bad.

Hopefully you can figure out your issue because I'm sure finding a non rusted version will be hard on the island.

    Beautiful place, great whitewater

OP, you may want to look through the various threads about replacing the knock sensors, and esp. those threads addressing rodent damage, as IIRC someone addressing that pipe and being able to get it off without removing one of the heads. But I may be wrong.

@Taco'09 Thanks i posted it in our local Toyota fb group and a guy came back saying that it can be removed without taking off the head :)

I think mine was a failed o ring on this pipe

IF it still leaks i will be going back in

Did you lubricate the o-ring prior to reassembly?

    @Torspd I did :)

I was underneath and looking up at the back of the motor and the end of the pipe assembly the (small one) has a J turn it in and it looks pretty rusty and flakey and wet.

    This one.

    20201203_092833.jpg

Is that due to the heater hose, at that connection, having a poor seal? As if the hose has aged too much and needs to be replaced?

I know it's probably a stupid question but you did put new hoses on as well while you were in there right? I've had a coolant hose refuse to seal again even after cranking down on the clamp.

The first thing I'd do is try to clean up the area to get a better idea of where it's actually leaking; steam clean, foaming cleaner, whatever. Everything under these trucks rust so badly it makes working on anything a PITA; it's not nearly as bad down here but even still there is rust and corrosion in my engine compartment.

Damn it man. :pout: Swapping in a new one this time it seems? Should that be the case, coat the new one with some enamel paint first.
