285/75/16 MTZ's.... OME lift(885s)...4:88 gears.... Front and rear ARB.... Homemade skids

X2 on this one... I got 4:88s with 33s on my 06 4 banger and shes still a dog.. mind you a hell of alot better then with the stock gearing.. your 5th gear will be pretty usless with that size and weight of tire.. if i was to go 35s I definitely would go with a 5:29 ratio.. but thats a personal preferrence and you do what you gotta do

If your going 35s i would stay away from the toyos(i had a pair) it is a fantastic tire and balanced perfect but.. they are only available in a 10 ply and are the heaviest MT tire out there and probably be weighing 10 pounds (at least) per tire more then say an MTZ or KM2 in an 8 ply.. and this will have a huge impact on your performance.. With that big of tire find the lightest one you can..
I think it will look badass thou!! and if you dont mind it being slow on the road... It will be awesome wheeling..

Post pics when and if you do.. theres also a chick on here that has a 6" and 35s on her reg cab and ran stock gears... heres a link to the thread her truck is in..

3" OME lift with 885 coils on nitrocharger 90000 shocks with 5mm trim packer on driver's side, TC UCAs, Rear OME Dakar leafs with nitrocharger shocks, All-pro U-bolt flip kit and 3* Toytec shims, extended rear brakelines, 16" Raceline Rockcrusher 887 wheels with 3.6" backspacking, BFG KM2 305/70/16 tires, Doug Thorley header, Doug Thorley catback exhaust, Volant CAI with ram air, Weathertech floor mats, Kicker 12" sub, Kenwood 500W RMS amp, Relentless Fab front and rear bumpers, 4.88 gears, custom flatbed with swing out tire carrier
285/75/18 are 35" x 11.5" - you need to take all 3 measures into consideration when calculating the size of the tire.

even though the toyos are 10 ply, they only weight 3 lbs per tire more than the km2s (11.5" vs 12.5" wide though). Plus the 11.5 will have less chance of rubbing when the wheels are turned.

and the MTZs are 71 lbs for a 12.5" width in 35s. So compared to the KM2s, the Toyos are only a couple pounds heavier at the most but are narrower. The KM2s arent available in the 11.5". So the KM2s arent atleast 10 pounds lighter than the Toyo MTs, as mentioned earlier.

I think the Toyos are still the best choice. Any disagreements with this?

I was judging the tire info on a 315/75/16 for all 3 tires.. and when comparing this size of tire they do weigh 10 lbs more.. When moving up to an 18 inch rim the MTZ jumps up to a 10 ply as well, making it the same weight as the toyo, not sure on the KM2 but will take your word for it..
    Sorry for any confusion there:p

In this case I would go with the toyo as well.. the 1" less in width will definitely help out with rubbing and having to trim and it is a kick ass tire.. i loved mine when i had them.. but there is a 12 lbs difference between a toyo and mtz in a 285/75/16, hence the reason i went with the MTZ in this size.. or I would have went with the toyo again..

But it will still affect your power alot.. my 33s weigh 56 lbs thats 15 lbs less then those 35s ..and as i said even with my 4:88s its still has a hard time in the higher gears..
Im running at 3100 rpms in 5th when driving at 75 and with the 2" diameter difference youll be running around 28 ish and pulling a hell of alot more weight
Whats the ratio??? every 10 pounds of rolling tire mass is equal to adding 200 lbs of weight to your truck??? something like that..

Im not trying to discourage you or anything.. Just giving you my opinion and experience with my current 33s with 4:88s.. I would still go up to a 5:29 myself with a 35 ...
But as I said its gonna look bad ass and definitely go for it.. not many reg cabs rolling around with a 6" lift and 35s.. just be prepared for a very slow truck;)

ok so i finally ordered the lift, its a 6 inch lift by pro comp!!!!
i plan to regear the truck later this winter when i have more money but as of now im running a stock 2.7 4x4 with soon to be 35s.
I plan to get just a cheap set of steel 16 inch wheels, what back spacing and other measurments do i need for the wheel?
And what are the lightest 35s made?
All comments are greatly appreciated, PLEASE HELP!

ryber - thank you for all of the info. Your knowledge is much appreciated and will definately be taken into consideration. Im placing my order for everything tomorrow so the timing is perfect. I just gotta make the final decision on the tires

Cwagner - ive done all my research for the 2009+ tacomas that have VSC and require an 18" or larger wheel (17" may work - not sure). It appears that tires made for these larger wheels are 10 ply (not 8 ply) and weigh more. The lightest tires ive seen are Toyo MTs (70 lbs in 285/75/18 which is 35x11.5") and BFG KM2s (67 lbs in 35x12.5") and Good Year Kevlar MT/R (at 65 lbs in 35x11.5") - not sure how good the Good Years are.

Im almost certainly goin with the Toyos.

Have you come to a final decision yet?? Very curious to see how the truck behaves with 4:88s and 35s. Show us some pics to if you've got any:D

The day I was placing my order for the lift, my fiance's old cadillac finally pooped out and I spent the money I was gonna use for the lift to help buy her a new car cuz the other one was not worth it to fix. So unfortunately, things have been postponed a little bit on the lift status. I still plan on doin it, its just gonna be a little longer before I do. Trust me, Im even more upset than you :-(

so i remember I started this thread a long time ago when I was first lookin at lifts and was 1 day away from buying a procomp 6" lift. Anyways, long story short, I didnt go that route and I got the 3" OME lift and couldnt be happier. Thanks to everyone for helping me through this journey.

I just didnt want to leave a thread 'hangin'

dang...i have a 4 cyl with the 6" procomp sitting on 35s. Never regeared. It's does just fine. Although the tires did rub a little, but the shop took care of that and trimmed things up.

O ya I forgot about the bridges. The Sunshine Skyway is a massive HILL. No grades around here that steep. You would never get up it in winter. :)

Did you ever recalibrate your speedo? I remember you said it was about 10MPH off. Also did you ever get the driveline vibes the ext cab guys talk about?

I'm still kinda wishing I had done the 6" lift with my reg cab, so much that I'm tempted to do it when they have free install offer again but probablly won't since I dumped so much into my coilovers. I was going to do the 6" lift but missed it by one day. Probablly just as well, as fitting in the garage would be really really close to the roof.
